I have been going to the museum since I was a kid but this was the first visit since the renovation. $14 admission is $10 to much. One thing really bugged me. This is not a huge museum, but it is very well-organized and full of info. The temporary exhibits we saw were outstanding. They had one on the history of fashion in Chicago including dresses from the 20s by Chanel. They also had an exhibit on the artifacts of Lincoln. We visited this museum on a Saturday afternoon during the summer. Unlike the Field Museum or Shedd, this museum is not overrun with visitors and screaming kids, which is kind of nice. I just visited the "new" museum today at the Member's Preview. What a great improvement over the old stuffy CHS. It's still on two floors. The rear of the building still has the old design. The staff here REALLY loves the place. Give them an opportunity to show you their favorite exhibits in the museum. One docent showed us with pride the actual bed that Abraham Lincoln died in. There was an interesting and informative slide presentation about the Great Fire of 1871. Go on Mondays, when admission is free. more
