The Oriental Institute contains some of the finest archaeological artifacts in the United States. The general audio guide is excellent and the building is often uncrowded. Great way to spend an afternoon! more
Not only does it contain fabulous large scale objects like mummies and the gorgeous Assyrian gates, there are neat everday things too -- how about an ancient Egyptian board game, for example! Or a 5,000 year old bed? Fascinating, inexpensive and wonderful. Add the the Museum of Science and Industry, Robie House, Jackson Park and a tour of the University... more
I must agree with the prior review that this museum is the best kept secret in Chicago. If you are interested in the history of the middle east, you will definitley enjoy the museum. The Assyrian gallery is truly amazing. more
This quiet university museum is a definte must see. We thought that it is the best kept secret in Chicago. Even our cab driver had no idea it was there! Suggested admission is only $5, but it is worth so much more! There is so much history crammed into this little space that you run the risk of missing something!... more
