The Art Institiute gets a little stuffy and overwhelming but the MCA is always fresh. Get ready see things you've never seen before. Be careful and check their website first for the exhibit schedule. I have been there when it seems like nothing is on display because there in transition between exhibits. more

This museum is outstanding b/c it is contemporary and multi-sensual. I'm an art fan, but I'll admit, some modern art leaves me cold and quizical. This museum, however, features exhibits by artists working in multiple mediums, and questions art by explorations through "non-traditional"means (sound was used pervasively to strong effect). Inside this dreary building, which would have been more at home in East Berlin, you will find some of the most pointless and offensive 'art' displayed anywhere. It is an insult, punctuated with occasional gratuitous obscentities, to a city that also houses one of the finest art museums in the world. more

Considering that Chicago is a huge, world class city, this museum has very little to offer the visitor in the way of art. At this museum, I saw several splendid Calder mobiles, some fine Andy Warhol silkscreens, but very else in such a huge building. I love art museums, but this one is a total disappointment. more

The Museum of Contemporary Art is one of the BEST things to see in Chicago. While I was on vacation last month I spent a lovely afternoon there.
