Very good hostel, staff great, rooms clean, bathroom facilities great! Student accomidation for the next door university is located on the top few floors so it is a reasonably young place to stay, ie. 20's-30's more
This hostel felt like a hotel. Great location, near State St and Michigan. Also, near Grant Park. Had a lot of things to do inside and they provided and advertised activities to do outside. Walking distance to many bars, restaurants, bus stops and train. Room and overall appearance of place was clean. The shower was kind of everywhere...needed a new... more
Had a great time at the hostel in Chicago. As far as hostels in the US go this one of the most well-equipped and pro-active in terms of organising activities. The volunteer organisers were enthusastic and took us on a fab night out where I met loads of new people. There was also a brilliant information area with literature and... more
I'm a 45 year old male who has found hostels to be both good and bad. The hostel in Chicago can make for a quick trip to Chicago very inexpensive. I am a member of HI and had two free night coupons. The HI-Chicago is in the south loop making it an excellent base for touring Chicago. Being from an... more
Inside it's a nice hostel, clean and friendly. However I had a room that faced onto the "El" train line, which was very loud almost all night long. And it cost me $27!!!!! to park across the street-- and that was a discounted rate! If you ask for a room away from the El, and don't have to park a... more
We found this place by the information point on O'Hare Intl. Airport. It's good location (walking distance from: Millenium Park, Aquarium, Sears Tower, Greyhound station...) There is a good bagel factory on the cornen. The staff were very heplfull. The price was a bit high (if you compare with other hostel prices) I absolutely recommend this place to young persons. more
We stayed at the HI Chicago right after Christmas till after New Years. It is in a great location, right downtown, near busses to get everywhere. The place itself is really eclectic, clean, and was really quiet and relaxing given the time of year we visited. Nice Kitchen and other common areas. more
This is a decent enough hostel. Property is in very good condition and there is free internet in the lobby area. There is also games like ping pong, a pool table and table football to play. Despite the decent amenities the atmosphere in the hostel is quite mooted. I'm more used to hostels where groups of people head out at... more
I brought a troop of 8 girls, with my coleader, from Minneapolis to Chicago for Memorial Day weekend. We rode the Megabus (about $35 roundtrip), bought CitiPass tickets (about $60) and 3-day visitor bus/El passes ($9), ate dim sum at Phoenix in Chinatown, and stayed at the Chicago IYH hostel for 3 nights (about $100) --- including meals, our entire... more
