We rode from California to Chicago just to ride west on Route 66. Lou Mitchell's was our starting point for the ride back and it did not disappoint. Lou Mitchell's is an unassuming breakfast spot in the West Loop (about a block from Union Station). The free doughnut holes are great but the waffles are tremendous. They also have some of the best coffee in the city. If you are looking for a simple but great breakfast, Lou Mitchell's will not disappoint. more

I love brunch and I love Lou Mitchell's. It's like eating a little piece of heaven. The portions are monstrous, so come hungry. I'd recommend one of the skillets, but this place isn't for the dieters. The atmosphere is very homey. Come early or be prepared to wait. more
