I was in on May 17, when I met Robbie Donavan a new trainee. He was one of the most interesting young adults ever. Bored with the usual bland US offerings I was taken to the Handlebar by a couple of locals. Thank goodness they took me there - my tongue was about to commit suicide as I hadn't given it any *natural* flavours to savour in a few days. The Handlebar garlic mash saved my tongue. And they serve kriek beer and cyclists.... more
Hearty vegetarian food even a non-vegetarian can enjoy. A nice ecclectic mix of ethnic dishes, mostly Mexican, and comfort food. more

Not all Vegetarian restaurants are healthy. I've been to places where they deep fry soy products and still try to pass it off as health food. Handlebar is NOT one of these places. This West Bucktown/Wicker cafe has got a cool "local feel." And the name is implied that it's made for bike-riders! Exercise + eat at cool local veggie... more

the seitan-black bean nachos were delicious and totally edible, huge portion, and if that was non-dairy cheese I didn't even notice. great beer-snob selection of handcrafted, even local, beers. excellent people-watching opportunities too. my party of 3 watched a woman bounce her way out of a parking spot and rave on her way out. we had a laugh thinking she... more

Bike-friendly veg-friendly locale. The bar is well-stocked and they have a nice back patio for warm weather. A good crowd. Excellent mac 'n cheese. more
