Unpretentious place, we enjoyed every moment at pane caldo. The food is nicely prepared,we tried few dishes from the excellent risotto with lobster served al dente, the tender duck confit and the very good osso buco. A nice selection of wines by the glasse. Applebee's quality at TRU prices. Invited by friends who know good food upon recommendation of a friend of theirs. Bread awful & cold (ironically so on both counts given the restaurant's name). We have eaten yearly for over a decade at Pane Caldo, usually only as a couple. The service has been outstanding, with many interesting people as waiters year after year. Prices are high, but this is Chicago, and the food is excellent Italian style and the setting is elegant. Maybe some of the sauces have been too rich, but not... more

I wish I could say better things about our recent experience at Pane Caldo. The restaurant was highly recommended by the concierge of our hotel (Park Hyatt, Chicago) and by friends whom we were taking to dinner. My experience with the reservationist was quite positive.
