We visited Carmines on the Saturday night before the Chicago marathon and were looking forward to a good pasta meal. Great atmosphere, HUGE portions. As I said in another review, I lived in Italy for four years so I'm pretty picky when it comes to American Italian food. Went to Carmines at about 10.30pm on a Friday. Had possibly the worst pizza I have ever eaten (or rather nibbled at and then left). We had a horrible experience at Carmine's. The food was absolutely horrible but we felt too guilty to send it back. The chicken parmigiana literally tasted like rotten VOMIT. Service was great, food was very good. The price/value was reasonable, the food portions were huge, you could easily share a meal. Location was very nice, Rush st is a great section of town. more
I loved this place. The food was very good, but not superb. The atmosphere is what makes this place. Classic old Chicago with a lounge singer, bathroom attendant, and great service from the wait staff. Noisy and busy, but fun. more
Carmine's is a classic. Just look at the 100's of signed photos of world-famous actors and celebrities who frequent here. Large portions, good service, not too overpriced. Can be noisy, depending on who your neighbors are. more
