even though this restaurant is recommeded (by fodor's) don't go out of your way to eat there. we just happened to be walking by (on michagan ave) and decided to stop in and see what all the hype is about. you have to go underground, so I wouldn't go at night. when we first walked in we were immediately yelled... more

we walked in to billy goat, late at night, and had the cheesburgers, and chips. it seemed like we were the only ones in there that were tourists, but noone cared. friendly people, even though, it says, enter at your own risk, when you walk in. i would definitely go back next time im in chicago! more
You gotta go here if you're in the neighborhood. The burgers are actually pretty good, but the atmosphere is what makes this place unique. Is it a little seedy? Is it a bit of a dive? Yes and Yes. I'd go back in a heartbeat and belly up to the bar. more
I was not at all impressed with the Billy Goat Tavern and IMHO I could have gone to McDonald's for a tastier double cheeseburger. I was told by a native that it's an acquired taste but I wasn't thrilled with the interior, the surly service or the draft beer. Oh well ! more

Don't go to the Billy Goat expecting 4 star service....Do order the double cheese since that it what you may get,,,,,,The prices for their beer is not that bad compared to other Loop bars . Was greatly disappointed in this overrated Chicago burger joint. Double burger was mostly bun and short on taste. Probably should have tried a triple! However, pickle chips were very good and beer prices reasonable for downtown Chicago.
