This place is not your typical sushi restaurant in a big city. While it offers most of the standard fare, such as regular nigiri, signature maki and hot entrees, where Kaze really shines is in its ever-changing signature nigiri. We're all used to regular nigiri of varying quality - a couple dozen usual varieties of fresh raw fish on rice.... more

I just returned from dinner with a friend at Kaze. I'll admit I was hesitant because I'm not a fan of really trendy or ridiculously expensive meals. I read some reviews saying the place was overrated and overpriced...however, I told myself I wanted to explore more restaurants in this area. The menu is expensive, but you get creative plates and... more

Unfortunately people confuse quality with pretentiousness and high cost. The food was average and expensive. The service arrogant, pretentious and not very friendly. The ambiance was stiff, unwelcoming, and down right rude. I am sure they have regulars that enjoy their food because the critics tell them it is worth the cost. Sorry, this average, hard working, middle class individual... more

Quick review: Drinks: very good. My wife had a watermellon mamosa made with sparkling sake.... very nice. Appetisers: ok- they were pretty good. We did the tuna tartare thing.. which was nice... but not amazing. Sushi: Average at best. I can think of 5 places in Chicago that are far better quality and more inventive. Overall- I'd go back if... more

We went to Kaze as it was recommended highly on TripAdvisor. My husband and I were disappointed with the food. The nigri was good (but expensive) but the rolls were dry and odd. Maybe I'm just a "traditional" sushi person but I've never had sushi with mayo and cheese in it. They had some interesting combinations on their menu. The... more

After reading the reviews on this site, I was really excited to bring my GF to this place. The entrance and location was lower than what I expected from a nice place. The entrance had a cheap canvas over it which kind of ruined the atmosphere. Inside it was pretty nice, good ambiance, a "springy" feel. Food was pretty good,... more

Kaze has amazing sushi!!! My husband and I went there for an anniversary dinner while traveling to Chicago from Indianapolis. The quality of the sushi was superb, not to mention the presentation and the unique yet delightful flavor combinations. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who likes sushi!!!!! more

My husband and I have been all around the world, sushi for us is at best Nobu Malibu, Nobu NYC, Nobu Miami and Matsuhisa of Beverly Hills...but this young gentleman, Kaze, and his spectacular sushi bar and restaurant are right up there at the top of the quality food chain...the best in Chicago...no question. A must visit, even if the... more
