If English food was good, this restaurant would be FANTASTIC. The reality is the English food is OK at best, but this restaurant makes the most of it. Very cool menu with unique options, and our food was very good. Would dine here again for sure. The only complaint is that the restaurant is loud -- sounds more like a... more

Gage is quite a unique location. It's rare that you can find personal service that is such a hoot to interact with. The food is innovative and tasty- although I'd hate to know how many calories are in a pork belly! Will certainly return but probably request to sit a little further away from the bar which was a bit... more

Should definately be in the top 10 for Chicago, I'm a local and this place is excellent. It's like an elegant pub, very distinguished from any other "pub" so I have a hard time calling it a pub. Food ranges from exoctic and interesting to the Gage burger (the best burger in Chicago in my opinion); everything I've tried there... more

Great place, great food. It looks like the Irish version of Balthazar in NY but without the attitude and better food. We went there on Thursday evening after an afternoon at the Art Institute that it’s right across the street (the entrance to the museum is free on Thursdays after 5pm and it’s open till 8pm). The restaurant was very... more

I'll admit that I'm from a small town, so that probably influenced my impression of The Gage. The menu was unlike anything I've ever seen, and the food lived up to the menu. More than enjoying my meal, I found myself eating very slowly and meticulously, scrutinizing new and unfamiliar flavors and textures. I can't really say that the food... more

A tad overpriced if you ask me, but how nice to have a new alternative on Michigan Avenue to pair with outings to the Art Institute, Millenium, Symphony etc. more

Food was good, but VERY loud in there. I actually had a scratchy throat after eating there from having to speak up in conversation more

My wife on a recent trip through the midwest, spent a week in Chicago. All other restaurants are a blurr when compared to the Gage. The menu and level of service was far, far above other restaurants in the same price category (and yes it can be pricey). Our waitstaff member knew her stuff and went out of her way... more

Stumbled across this place during a business trip to Chicago. It was an amazing discovery! Packed with a hip after work crowd and a mixture of younger tourists, I found my way to the bar for a few drinks. Great beer menu, heavy on the English Pub variety, but plenty in bottles and tap to keep anyone happy. Prices were... more
