Here's the PRO, but be sure to read the CON at the end.
Tour date: 11:00 am on the beautiful Sunday morning of 6/21. Booked the tour on line the night before when we discovered our previous plans to see the city had been cancelled.
Our small group of 7 had Jen as our guide. She was super informative on the neighborhoods, architecture, foods we were going to be tasting etc.
Started at Ashkenaz Deli where we tasted a reuben, moved on to the Spice House where we got a little lesson on Cinnamon (never knew there was more than one), got a very refreshing iced tea and fantastic presentation from the young lady at Tea Gschwendner, tasted some very unusual combinations of vinegars and oils in the Old Town Oil shop, loved the milk chocolate toffee samples we were given at the Fudge Pot, but the best part was the Chicago Deep dish pizza with spinach which we had at our final stop Bacino's. Never had deep dish before, and didn't think I'd like it, and ended up cleaning my plate.
Tour was good and would recommend to visitors.
CON: THIS I THINK IS A BIGGIE. IT'S ADVERTISED AS MODERATE WALKING PACE, but I thought it was much quicker thatn that. In my reservation when it asked for concerns or something, I said I would be with my Mom who is 78, and I think in good shape. Although she made it, she really struggled to keep up with the group which made it difficult to hear everything being told about the buildings and the areas. I'd be very cautious of this.
Also, not sure what the purpose of stopping in tthe Catering Chocolate Gourmet Food Store was.

The tour might actually be good, but scheduling it is a complete nightmare. They make you jump through several hoops and can cancel your tour at any time. We made our reservations, then received an e-mail several days later saying that the tour was already full (even though their Web site said differently when we initially booked the tour). They asked for three alternate dates on a weekday instead of a weekend (what a joke). Service people are uncooperative and arrogant. I wouldn't recommend these people to anyone.

Management Response
(Management representative)
Jul 1, 2009
We sincerely apologize to GoUtes04 and anybody else who is unable to find available tickets on a particular day and time. We strongly encourage participants to book tickets well in advance as our food tours generally sell out. To avoid being placed on a waiting list and to increase the chances of getting the exact day and time you want, please be sure to purchase tickets from Zerve, our official 3rd party ticketing company, directly from our website or over the phone. Only in the case of severe inclement weather will our food tours be canceled.

My wife and I took the tour in earlier June and were in a small group of 4 with the guide making 5. The food tour starts at George's hotdogs and continues to visit some great stops in Bucks town. The food was fantastic and we felt that we were enjoying authentic Chicago gems in the company of a well informed and passionate guide. The tour combined great food with local knowledge and particular architectural highlights. A fine 3 hours however the food stops can begin to fell daunting as you certainly enjoy a large amount of food, all of which was excellent. Favourites included the hotdog, hot chocloate (you have to try it to understand) and the magical i-cream! We really recommended this is not missed.

My wife and I took the 11AM Near North Tour recently. Our guide was energetic and knowledgeable. We learned a little history, a little architecture and tasted some great food. A good way to start to learn about Chicago neighborhoods. My wife is a serious cook and she plans to order from a couple of the shops we visited. We now have a new favorite Chicago pizza.

My group of four women vacationing in Chicago had a fabulous time on the Food Planet Tour of the Gold Coast, Old Town, and Lincoln Park. Despite the rain which accompanied the entire tour, this experience was fun, upbeat, entertaining, and enlightening. I cannot say enough about our fantastic guide, Arianna, a very knowledgeable young lady who made this outing the wonderful time it was. Our group enjoyed stops at seven establishments for food, beverages, and astonishingly great information about food, architecture, culture, and the history of Chicago. Kudos to Arianna and Food Planet and thank you for this unique taste of the Windy City!
