Wonderful museum. It is free, from 5-9pm on Friday nights in the summer. My favorite wing is the impressionist period, some great Monets and Van Goghs. The modern American art is also very neat. We had two strollers and there was plenty of room to maneuver through the museum. Highly recommend.

I had the pleasure of taking my students to Chicago for the day this past week. Having lived in the Chicagoland area 18 years ago, I am familiar with the city, but wanted an "experts" take on the new Modern Art wing and artworks. I found Jeff Mishur through the Chicago Tourism 800 number.
As and artist and educator I wanted to post what a pleasure it was to have an Art Historian give such an informative tour. Jeff talked at ease with the adults and children about all aspects of the museum - from the construction/architecture to the painting and sculptures. The public sculpture tour was about an hour and the museum tour a bit longer. We paid for our own entrance to the museum, but children/students under 14 are free!!! Our tour was $45 per person. Nice museum - it was $12 for basic entrance (under 12's are free) but we paid $20 per adult in order to see the Munch exhibit. Staff were odd - looking at you like you were about to steal Scream and the layout was confusing ( especially as they are renovating) but it was a nice museum (we live in NYC and are from London so are a little spoiled regarding museums). The Munch exhibit was fab - long bit worth the addition $8 on the entrance fee.

This museum has a nice selection of paintings, furniture, and sculpture. They have other media on display but not in abundance. My favorite were some Toulouse-Lautrec paintings and a few frank lloyd wright pieces.

This museum has a lot of impressionism on display. It's not the easiest museum to navigate, and the maps are a little confusing. They have an OK shop as well.

The museum is free on Thursday evenings (I think it's after 5pm). It gets a little packed but it's still doable. Enjoy!
