We took our 2 year old and 6 year old to the Field Museum. We parked down on Adams in a parking garage and walked through Grant Park on the way to the Museum. Here is my review of the exhibits we paid to see.

Water - NOT worth it for kids. There is nothing in there for them to do and it costs extra, save your money.

Pirates - Go EARLY and get in here first. You can NOT bring your stroller into this exhibit and they don't tell you that when you buy the ticket. Pick a time NOT when your child is napping. Really cool, but not so great for small kids.

Underground Adventure - more kid friendly with Honey I Shrunk the Kids feel. Still not tons of stuff for them to do, but at least mine weren't asking to leave.

Here is the stuff included in general admission:

Kids Area - on ground floor. REALLY COOL for little ones. Bummer is that the last entrance is at 3 pm.

Nature Walk - 6 year old really liked this

I visited the Field with my 13 year old son. We had a nice time and actually saw all three floors in only a few hours. The exhibits were very interesting. Suprisingly, we enjoyed the huge selection of preserved animals the most. They have a specimen of almost every animal created! We didn't dawdle but kept moving and kept it interesting. The 4-D movies are very good and we loved both of them. Don't miss the Egyptian exhibit on the bottom floor--it's pretty good! All in all, a great attraction!

The Field Museum is a wonderful place to take children. You can have a great experience for adults as well. It includes all aspects of history from multiple cultures of the world. My favorite exhibit was the Ancient Americans. The entrance to it is a stunning video projection of mammoths that makes you feel like you really are in "ancient Chicago". The Egyptian exhibit was also good. I loved that they had stones from the actually pyramid. Very beautiful and authentic.

Seeing "Sue" the T-rex was definitely a highlight, but there are lots of neat things to see here! Some of the exhibits seem a little old fashioned, but there are plenty of others which are modern and fun with lots of interactivity. Our favorite was the Real Pirates exhibit! If you get a chance to visit while this exhibit is still open, definitely pay the extra admission! Also, this museum is HUGE, so I would devote an entire day to spend here.
