I drove 11 hours to see it and it was one of the biggest thrills of my life. I actually went through it twice by purchasing two separate tickets as I knew I couldn't take it all in on the first walk through. I borrowed the exhibition catalog from my local library and read it carefully for a few weeks before the exhibit and when I got there it was a big thrill because I knew what I was seeing. Only complaint I have is that I wish some of the dramatic lighting was done away with a bit at times but that is ok. I did not go through the entire Field museum as I came to see Tut and the Field museums Egyptian exhibit. The museum is a little off , doesn't seem to be world class as far as how they exhibit their regular items but the Tut exhibit was great. I especially loved the childhood chair of Tut, the lotus shaped wishing cup, the bust of tut. Definitely worth seeing but how much more you appreciate it if you read about it before going.

Just wanted folks to know that the King Tut exhibit is a lot of the same stuff over and over again in each room, and way too many people are let in at a time! You wait in line for each case - hint - we finally learned half way through the exhibit that you can walk around the back side and see almost as well. You will not get to see his sarcophagus or anything like that! I think I'll just watch a program on TV about it next time!

During a visit to Chicago in July 06 we had pre-purchased tix to the Field Museum, anxious to see the King Tut exhibit. We thought the Tut exhibit was OK, at best, but as many other people have pointed out, it was quite a letdown at the end that they had very little from King Tut. Rather than his coffin, they had an image of his coffin projected on a slab. I really thought the end of the exhibit was really cheesy, and very disappointing. However, that was nothing compared to the Field Museum itself. My girlfriend had wanted to see the Field for years, having heard all kinds of great things. It was a HUGE disappointment. It's a huge building, and the center of the building is this large expanse of open space with nothing in it except the dinosaur skeleton, which was ok. The rest of the museum is broken up into various exhibits - Africa, Ancient Egypt, gems and jewels, etc. Most of the exhibits were rife with fake items or replicas rather than the real thing. And, they had many, many stuffed animals in glass displays with cheesy backdrops that looked very amateurish. Basically, when you were looking at something it got to the point you didn't know if it was real or fake until your read the info around it, and there was so much fake stuff it really detracted - it was like - what's the point!! On one display were looking at with a bunch of jewels - Hope Diamond and other stones, we happened to notice a plate at the bottom that read - all these are fake, we bought the entire set for $800.!!!! Why bother - what was the point of that??? We finally got the point we couldn't wait to leave, and we were so disappointed we decided not to visit any other Chicago museums until we checked them out further. Another thing was how poorly maintained the building is. As we were leaving we walked around the outside on the west side, and all the stones in the walkway around the building had weeds coming up between the stones - kinda reminded us of the delapidated buildings depicted in "Logan's Run"!!! It was really a shocking surprise. It wasn't as bad inside, but it still wasn't as pristiine as we expected a Chicago museum to be. I would strongly advise people to skip this unless you just want a good laugh. We will also not make the mistake of going to a museum again when school's out - the kids were overrunning the place, and were quite poorly behaved.

Went to see King Tut in the 70"s MUCH better that the new show, very few actual Tut artifacts, the first several rooms are all filled with things that may or may not belong to Tut's family, they don't know for sure, the last couple of rooms are his stuff, but nothing big, no coffin, mummy or most painful of all no death mask, my daughter who is a ancient cultures fanatic, left in tears. save your money!!!

I got tickets for the Tut exhibit, thinking it would be fun for my teenage kids to see the spectacular exhibit I saw when I was a teenager. However, this go-around was not quite as profound. There were a few items that were very unique and interesting, but the Egypt exhibit outside the special exhibit was very interesting as well. The crowd we were in had a number of rude people in it, unfortunately, and the museum personnel were a bit rude in the special exhibit also. I was a little disappointed and cannot really recommend this one, unless you are ready to put up with a lot just to view a few unusual pieces.
