For months, we planned our trip to Chicago to see the King Tutankhamun exhibit at the Field Museum. We were astonished by the artifacts on exhibit -- especially their excellent condition despite being 3000-3500 years old.

However, many visitors exited the exhibit saying "that's it?" All of the advertisements pictured King Tut's death mask and one of the inner coffins which we thought would be on display. They weren't. We weren't expecting the actual mummy but we were expecting more than what we got. The exhibit ended with a video speculating the cause of death of the young king. Needless to say, the exhibit lacked a grand finale.

We did enjoy the regular Ancient Egyptian exhibit at the Field Museum which is separate from the King Tut exhibit. It was more fascinating and creatively done than the King Tut exhibit.

The Field Museum never said anything about having the actual Gold Mask there, but at the same time they plaster the mask all over their advertising banners like no tomorrow!!!!!!!!! I too was dissappointed in the absence of the gold mask. When I asked about it when turning in my audio guide at the end of the exhibit, the usher had explained that the Egyptian government no longer allows the gold mask to leave the country. If you ask me, this answer sounded very rehearsed.

Unless you are just stopping by, this is NOT WORTH IT!!
Shame on the Field Museum for misrepresenting the exhibit.

The Tut exhibition is pretty much Tut-less. A huge disappointment. NOTHING OF TUT’S SARCOPHAGUS! Can you believe that?
There was a fair amount of “... from the tomb of a family friend...” but little of the good stuff found in Tut’s tomb. I took in the exhibit piece by piece, waiting for the payoff room, when I came around the corner to find the gift shop (with its rather demeaning gift section [a flip book with a picture of Tut’s real mummy coming down the hall at you?] ) I was truly let down.

This exhibit is a hotdog being passed off as filet mignon.

I wouldn’t recommend this exhibit unless you’re going to the Field anyway. I’d consider a side step, not an out of your way destination.

I, along with my family (5 adults, including myself), had the chance to visit this massive museum on vacation. The museum is huge and you will need many hours to see and read everything. Even if you don't read everything, which is quite hard to do, you will still need a lot of time. I found out about this museum from a AAA Travel Book, and it said to allow 4 hours minimum. That is definately accurate.

The exhibits are great! Tons of information about natural history, from the Dinosaurs to Gems and Jewels to Ancient History (Egypt, Indians, Humans) to Birds and Animals, etc.

The price was very fair. $12 for adults, $7 for students with IDs, seniors and children 3-11, Free for children under 3.

There really isn't much to eat inside, so I would suggest grabbing a nice meal before hand and you will definately walk it off. There is a McDonald's on the lower level and a Bakery on the main level, along with some vending machines, but that is all.

The only things that I would put in the negative here, would be the crowds. It gets VERY crowded here, especially during the prime tourist season and now that the King Tut exhibit is on-site (we didn't get a chance to see it). Also, parking is high. Expect to pay $15 to park in the Soldiers Field parking garage.

All-in-all, a great experience for adults and children alike. Take your time in the Evolving Planet exhibit, which displays Earth's history, mass extinctions, and more! I would definately come here again.

We spent half a day there last week. It was overwhelming to my family. There is so much to see that you just feel overcome. Also it seems too bad that you have to pay for all the extra exhibits. The fee is already considerable and then any of the special exhibits were extra. There aren't a lot of places to rest in the main area. Seats are at a premium. Also we had a stroller and had to constantly wait for a very slow elevator. One small elevator for such a huge place is ridiculous. People who had to use it were quite angry. The other elevator was for King Tut people only and it was empty most of the time. Bad planning on their part. The people at the ticket area are not very friendly either. With so many foreign visitors I would expect a little more friendliness on the part of these people.
