A few years ago my wife and I began going to Chicago for some pre-holiday shopping on the Magnificent Mile. Great dining, great shopping, and the lighting festival all in a fantastic city - at a wonderful time of year! We keep threatening to switch to New York some year, but as Fall arrives, we start talking about "last" year's trip, and can't bring ourselves to change. This is a nice, short trip for couples with hectic schedules, and really helps to set the tone for the holidays. One walk under the lights after a fantastic dinner, and you'll ask yourselves why you don't do things like this more often.

My fiance and I went to Chicago to go shopping for Christmas. It was a wonderful trip. I would highly recommend going to the Signature Room at night to see the Chicago skyline. The Magnificant Mile is wonderful also.
