One of the last free city zoos in the United States, Lincoln Park Zoo is a great economical family attraction. Zoo enthusiasts might find it to be small and a little plain, but its not a bad way to burn a few hours. Highlights are the polar bears, bears, big cats, and primates. Aside from that, the other exhibits are a little underwhelming. On sunny weekends you can bet this place is pretty crowded, but week days make for a really nice since it feels like you have the place to yourself!
Parking can be a challenge on the weekends especially. We went on Labor day and ended up dropping $15 for a lot that was still a pretty far walk away. Since the zoo is free, $15 isn't too steep a price to pay. But I might recommend taking public transportation on the weekends. If you go on a weekday, a little diligence can find you some street parking not too far away.
