Reading the past reviews, it appears people either love this hotel or hate it. If they are basing it on the rooms themselves, I can see why. When we checked into our assigned room on the 11th floor it was very nice, clean and well maintained. The only problem was that it had 2 double beds and I preferred a king. I called the front desk and they did have a king room, but it was on the 3rd floor. We chose to take it even though it was a lower floor and unbeknownest to us, directly across from the fire station.
This room was in bad disrepair. The wood at the bottom of the bathroom door was rotted through and the carpets and floors were very dirty.
The noise didn't seem to bother us much as the windows and blackout curtains kept out much of the sound. As usual the bed was divine, nice breakfast (not so nice woman working the breakfast though), and the location was perfect for walking.
A can't say enough wonderful things about the front staff, valet and concierge they all went above and beyond to provide exceptional service.
My advise when booking a room hear is to request an upper floor facing Illinois Ave. and to check it out before getting settled.
