I stayed at this property October 26-28th. I would love to give it a good review since it had a lot going for it. I'll start with the positives. The location provides easy access to restaurants and shops on State Street. The employees were all very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, and the bedding comfortable. The breakfast was fair, with ample bagels, donuts, english muffins, fresh fruit and juice, along with one warm breakfast item each morning. The first morning there was some egg, meat and cheese deal on what looked like a half bagel. It was so-so. The second morning they had waffles, which looked like the frozen kind. I didn't try them. Now for the negatives. As others have mentioned, the fire station is right across the street from the hotel. Even though I made sure our room was on the opposite side, the sirens were loud and plentiful. Additionally, our room was at the end of the hall (room 430), and right below the windows were the air conditioning units for the pool. They ran pretty constantly the whole time the pool was open. Worse than that was the alley below where the neighboring restaurants dumped their trash. All day and into the wee hours of the morning you could hear the trash being dumped, glass breaking and the trash compactors going. With my ear plugs and a pillow over my head, I could muffle the sound enough to get some sleep. So, sadly, I will not stay here again next time I am in Chicago.

Chose this Hampton Inn on the basis of tripadvisor reviews and it was an excellent choice.
When we first arrived, I was a bit disappointed, as the area seemed a bit iffy and the reception was gloomy. But that`s the end of the negative bits.....
The location is great - loads of good restaurants within easy walking distance (would recommend Weber Grill and Rockbottom). There are even two restaurants on the premises which we promised ourselves we`d try when it rained - of course, it never rained!
We had a king suite with a huge bed, lounge with sofabed, kitchenette with large fridge, microwave, hotplates, dishwasher etc etc. (usual tiny american bathroom - but we`re used to those!)
Also - I couldn`t praise the staff highly enough. Nothing was too much trouble. The front desk guys suggested restaurants, changed travellers cheques and allowed us an extra hour on check out day (prior to us flying back to the UK) all with cheery smiles.
AND - the gals running the complimentary breakfast spoiled my husband rotten. He only had to say, "no sausages this morning then?" for one of them to disappear and then come back a minute later with a plate of sausages, biscuits and country gravy!
There was also a good indoor pool, spa and gym area which was generally empty (although we were there midweek)
We hadn`t used Hampton before, but wouldn`t hesitate to use them in future.
Oh - and yes, you can hear the fire sirens, but I reckon you can hear those anywhere in downtown Chicago.
The architecture river cruise was excellent too.
Great city!

stayed overnight for a next day meeting. it's located in the middle of downtown and just a quick walk from the red line subway. i've never stayed at a hampton inn but thought it was quite decent. it's not a 4 star hotel or anything, but it was nice enough. i got a room w/ 2 double beds, and the room provides a computer lap desk so i could work on my laptop in bed. they have free internet which is a big plus for me. i did notice that the walls were thin as you can hear people in the hallway or the doors slamming, and the sirens from the street coming from the window. They have an automated wake up call which was prompt and on-time. they called to check if the room was okay after settling in for 5-10 mins. the bathroom was clean, nothing too fancy. there is a chinese restaurant that is zagat rated on the corner called Ben Pao. their black pepper shrimp was excellent, but not so much for the mongolian beef (i've had better). there was a line for ordering take-out, but you can also order to-go online on their website. it seemed to be a somewhat fancy restaurant.

My wife and I visited Chicago for four days in September 2007. We stayed at the Hampton and the hotel was great.
It's in a good location .. walkable to Navy Pier and the Magnificent Mile shopping area.
We have stayed at several Hampton Inns and this one was up to their usual standard.
The room was nice, the bed comfortable and the breakfast good. Ideal.
We did The Untouchables tour, which was very good and visited the Field Museum, which we really enjoyed.
Chicago is a wonderful city and when we go back we'll definitely be staying at the Hampton.
