May 20, 2009 | Trip type: Family

We staying at the Fairmont Chicago from May 16-May 18 2009. We booked the Fairmont as part of a conference/show that we were there for.

We booked a room that slept 4 and one room that slept 3. The room that slept 3 was clean, with 2 beds and had an amazing view on the 30th floor. The room that slept 4 was huge with 2 TV's, a tub and shower, and a huge bathroom. There was a bit of a misconception with that room because we were led to believe that there were 2 seperate rooms but it was one room with a King sized bed and then a pull out couch. It wasn't a big deal and they brought up and extra cot right away.

This hotel is located about 3 blocks from the Magnificent Mile and is central to most of the shopping centers. It's about 15 minute walk to Navy Pier.

On the day we checked out our bus wasn't picking us up until 2:25 so we decided to go shopping, and we left our bags at the front bell hop. There was no problem in picking them back up or leaving them there.

The staff were friendly and tried to accomodate all of our needs. We asked for extra pillows and an extra blanket and they were brought up to us within 20 - 25 minutes.

As part of the suite we booked, we received free breakfast in the restaurant however we changed that to in room dining which we were then charged for, but we then called the front desk and the charge was waived.

The price we paid for the rooms was quite pricey but that's what you can expect for a high class hotel in downtown Chicago.

I stayed at the Chicago Fairmont for four nights for a conference. My fiance' accompanied me. When we checked in, we were given a room with two full size beds despite the fact that our reservation was for one king size bed. So instead of relaxing on the large luxurious bed we had imagined, we were forced to either sleep in separate beds like Ward and June Cleaver or either cuddle up on a small full size like two college kids in a fraternity house!

We discovered that the coffee maker wasn't working and called down to the desk to have someone look at it, and waited two and half hours. We had issues with the plumbing, including extremely slow hot water tap in the bathtub which took 45 minutes to fill. The toilet stopped working twice. We returned one afternoon from the art museum to find the maid in our room, sitting on the bed, watching the tv and talking on her cell phone. They bellman were rude, and wouldn't let my fiance unload our own car which was packed with some of his very expensive camera equipment. There were errors on our bill. Last but not least, we saw a ROACH in the drawers. Alive.

The restaurant downstairs was decent, and the location is fairly good since my conference was in the Hyatt next door but for the price you can find someplace better. I will never ever stay here again under any circumstances.

My partner and I stayed over a week-end at the Fairmont. The room was clean and the bed was fluffy and comortable with nice quality linens. We asked for a room with a view, so they put us on the 22nd floor. The view was basically into another building facing us, but that's typical in a city of skyscrapers. The lobby was sleek, shiny and comfortable, and the public areas of the hotel are nicely appointed and and immaculate. We did not use the restaurant services--too expensive and there are so many great alternatives in the city. The sushi bar looked underpopulated by guests. We booked through price-line name your price and got the room for $110 a night, which by Chicago standards is great. We walked many places (very convenient to Millenium Park), but cabs were always available in a second or so out front. I was really disappointed that free coffee wasn't available. There was an honor bar for making coffee, but it was $10. Who's going to pay that???? I stayed recently at a Double Tree and not only was there complimentary coffee and tea with real cream, but turn down services with a great chocolate and fantasitic chocolate chip cookies! I would stay at the Fairmont again without a qualm if it came up on my Price Line search, but I'd rather stay at the Doubletree, Hyatt or Mariott. Their lobbies are just a lot more exciting, and decorating is less IKEA like.... The consierge was FANTASTIC! Very helpful. She recommended an Italian restaurant, (Volare Ristorante) that was reasonable and supurb (although not cozy and romantic), and a place for breakfast (Gage) that was also quite nice. There are spa services available, but again, we didn't use them. I didn't see any kids to speak of, so there are probably better places to stay with kids.

Room were fantastic. Services was excellent. The staff went out of their way to make sure our stay was memorable. The location is a little off the Magnificent Mile but right next to Millenium Park. Made our trip to Chicago a lasting memory!!!

Nestled just off the beaten path and about two blocks from the river the Fairmont Chicago offers an excellent location to operate as home base for your trip to Chicago. The staff were friendly and helpful, arranging many of the sightseeing events we enjoyed while in the city. There are many attractions withiin easy walking distance (The Art Institute is a must see and Millenium Park is a fun visit). The architectural tour by river departs a dock that is very close to the Fairmont and there are lots of restaurants nearby.

The rooms were excellent and the club room is worth the extra expense. We would definitely stay here again.
