Stayed at this hotel for St. Patrick's Day weekend (03/13-03/15/09). Clean, comfortable, easy access to parking. A bit of a hike to downtown area, but window shopping along the way was pleasant. Would be very convenient to Soldier Field.

The best thing about the BW Grant Park Hotel in Chicago is it's location. A 5-minute walk from Museum Campus (Aquarium, Planetarium, Field Museum), with bus stops right outside to take you up to the Art Institute or Magnificent Mile, and a great view if you get an east-facing room. The second best thing about this hotel was actually the restaurant that is attached to its lobby, "Mei's Kitchen". For breakfast only, it provides an excellent value - it's "Eggsellent Dish" consists of 2 (LARGE) eggs, meat, toast/bagel, with hash brown or a large bowl of fruit for under $7.00 US. The fruit is actually sweet and fresh, not canned or frozen - even in February! The service and the rooms were ok - not sparkling or sophisticated but decent enough, and a great value in the off-season. The worst part was the temerature - we had a north-facing view and it was hard to regulate so it was either too hot or too cold! The fitness centre is a tiny room with a couple of cardio machines, and the pool is outside - so forget about it in the off-season.

Chicago was the starting point for our 3 week trip in the States. We originally booked this hotel online coming up to the time we were due to go away. Starting to panic, we just looked for a nice, recognizable name somewhere that looked accessible.

We were pleasantly surprised. We aimed for something cheap and cheerful and that is what we got. The hotel was nice, it was clean and comfortable whilst not being too over the top.

Rooms were nice, again clean and comfortable which is most important for me and spacious enough. It also has Internet access for guests in the lobby. The staff for the most part were nice but had maybe one or two members who could have been more helpful or even just friendly! The hotel had a restaurant which again was nice but again nothing too fussy, if that is what you're looking for.

The biggest problem with the hotel I found was perhaps the location. Whilst it was perfect for sightseeing in the Grant Park / aquarium, planetarium and museum area, it was a little out of the way for the rest and for night life etc. We found ourselves most nights just ending up in the hotel restaurant because we were so tired from walking all day and hadn't the energy to walk a ways to find another decent restaurant, which was very disappointing.

Overall, the hotel surprised us as we were starting to worry over its location. We received a lovely welcome and in general we were happy with our stay.

I found a bargain deal on this hotel on Expedia (?) and from the reviews I had read on here (Tripadvisor) I wasn’t expecting very much for my money. The free wireless and my own bathroom where the main reasons I had booked here. My room was large, as was the bathroom. On the ninth floor of the building. Yes, the furnishings were bland and dated, but that was okay with me. What really bugged me though was the noise; the constant noise. On the first night I just assumed that it was the wind and that I heard it more because I was on the top floor – and thought nothing more of it. I am a light sleeper at the best of times and usually sleep wearing earplugs. I had to keep the earplugs in whenever I was in my room and not watching television. The noise drove me insane. I don’t know what it was – probably an old fashioned antiquated ventilation system. The noise really threatened to ruin my time there. On another note, the maid took off with one of my tshirts and some of my underwear – and didn’t return them. Would I stay here again? Perhaps… but only for less than £50 a night.
