I booked this hotel under after reading a website that said that the Conrad was one of the most kid friendly hotels in Chicago. It stated that they greeted the kids with cotton candy at check-in and gave them an age appropriate toy. My other deciding factor was the fact that they had a DVD player in each room. I have a 3 year old daughter and she likes to watch "The Incredibles" each night before going to bed. Well, I have to say that the hotel was absolutely beautiful, but there was no cotton candy or toy greeting my daughter at check-in. Oh well, it was not a deal breaker by any means, but I did expect it to be more kid friendly. We actually didn't see any children the entire time we were there. It didn't matter to us, but they also don't have a pool, which could be a downer for those that want one. The room was great, the staff was very helpful and friendly, and the location was right-on! The room was nice and spacious and I didn't hear a peep from anyone the entire 3 nights. I thought that we were the only ones there it was so quiet! If you are looking for a more kid friendly hotel, spend a little extra and go the to the Ritz-Carlton. There is an excellant playground right across the street for them to get some energy out. And from what I hear, they have a cookies and milk turndown service. Don't get me wrong, I would totally book the Conrad again if it was just my husband and I, but I don't know if I would book again for the 3 of us.

The location is fab...right next to Nordstrom (my mothership...) The staff is lovely and the rooms are comfy and inviting. Cool, relaxing colors and cushy furniture..Love the deep soaking tub. Ridiculously great burgers from Room Service (doing a personal survey of best RS burgers) and the Conrad is in my top 3...Nothing beats a midnight burger in your jammies! We've stayed here at least 6x and never had a bump...good views, great staff, zero problems. GET HERE NOW! We're coming back in Nov for the MAGMILE LIGHT FESTIVAL and with our corner suite we'll have a perfect view of the Parade. We booked early and got asuper rate. Skip the in-house restaurant, go across the street to COSI for great coffee and breakfast :)

I stayed here with my son on the weekend of May 16th. Check-in was quick and very pleasant. My room was on the 6th floor, cityview. Both of our rooms were identical. The entryway to the room was spacious.
The room had a large (50"?)flatscreen TV, desk with comfortable leather chair, easy chair with ottoman and a dresser with 3 drawers for storage. For the life of me, I cannot understand why this hotel does not have wifi, just old fashioned wire hookup. There was a good sized closet equipped with a large Conrad shopping bag to carry home your souvenirs. The closet was also eqipped with slippers, cloth laundry bags and an umbrella for use during inclement weather. Because of the hotels proximity to a firehouse, the area can be loud at times I never did hear anything from other rooms or hallways the 2 nights I stayed and there was a convention in town, so I was quite impressed with the quietness.
The bathroom was "Kohler" branded with luxurious marble countertops and floors, a tub, and glass enclosed shower. Toiletries were Italian, but also included Q-tips, flossing sticks, mouthwash and a toothbrush with a very small tube of Colgate toothpaste included. The toilet was seperated by a door from the bathroom. The towels were very thin and worn as mentioned by others.
The hotel had a bar with around 12 barstools and tables and easy chairs to accomodate another 28-30 patrons. There were more tables and easy chairs in the area surrounding the lounge entrance. The bartender and his assistant were very good at their jobs and pleasant to boot.
I only used the restaurant for breakfast. I was given vouchers for a free Continental breakfast. The vouchers were worth $14.00 and could be used as credit for any item on the menu. I opted for the American breakfast which consisted of eggs, potatoes, a meat item, toast, juice and coffee or tea. The price was $19.00. The portions were on the small side and I would have definitely opted for another restaurant if I didn't have the vouchers. Onlike some other comments about the staff, I was very happy with the service I received from my waiter and waitress.
The hotel itself is in a great area for shopping, and a 20 minute walk to the waterfront. It is also a 5 minute walk to the C.T.A. Redline, which is great for traveling to the friendly confines of Wrigley Field or connecting to other train lines.
My ride coming into the city from ORD on Friday evening was about a 35 minute ride and $45.00 +tip. On Sunday morning, the ride took about 25 minutes and cost me $36.00 + tip.
Having Diamond status in the Hilton Honors program, the only thing I was slightly disappointed about was the lack of an executive lounge. But I knew this going in. Overall, the hotel was everything I expected.
Because of the lack of an executive lounge, I will probably try the Drake Hotel the next time I am in Chicago.

I have stayed at the Conrad Hotel a few times, for both business and leisure. This trip, in May, 2009, was for leisure (a long weekend in Chicago). Given that I keep returning, I obviously like the hotel. The rooms are well-appointed, the decor is on the luxe end without being ostentatious, the fitness center is awesome, and the location -- right on Michigan Avenue, with the car entrance on Rush -- cannot be beat for easy access to downtown Chicago and beyond (the subway is only a block away). This latest stay offered another solid experience.

The hotel does position itself as a high-end property, and it mostly fits the bill. The concierge service is always excellent, and there are several thoughtful amenities [slippers, plush robes, fantastic AV in the room (including DVD & CD player at no additional charge), huge bathrooms, luxe bathroom products, umbrella, complimentary shoe shine, fabric laundry bags, etc.]. The bell service is always very nice. The property seems to cater to an older, but not ancient, crowd, so it does feel like a retreat from the hustle and bustle of Michigan Ave., and because the hotel is smaller than most of the properties on Michigan, the lobby lacks some of the craziness of the big hotels. I think the only areas where the hotel misses the mark a bit are in some of the detail work other luxe properties (like Ritz and Four Seasons, which the hotel positions itself as competing against) get 100% correct. For instance, the ATM in the lobby wasn't reading cards, but the staff didn't know it; turndown service was forgotten in our room one night; the hotel's newsletter in our room, detailing movies shown on its terrace during the summer and fall, was very old and featuered the 2008, rather than 2009, schedule. Also, I attempted to order a simple room service breakfast one morning (some pastries and coffee), and I was told that the wait would be one hour because the kitchen was overwhelmed (I appreciated the honesty, but an hour for coffee and a croissant?). Most of my stays have been with a pretty great rate, so I haven't minded these small things, but if I was paying the rack rate for the hotel I'd been more sensitive to some of these things.

Overall, this is a VERY nice hotel with a good (sometimes exceptional) staff and a fantastic location.

Stayed 6 nights on business, with my wife. 8th floor room : neat enough , but some of the room fittings were a bit tired and in need of an update. Bathroom was better and up to 4 - 5 star standard. Wide screen TV OK. Towels were nasty, cheap and scratchy as correctly advised by another reviewer ! Hotel breakfast was poor value. Nearby delis and markets are your best bet ( Jewel Osco market and Fox & Obel within walking distance). Fitness centre air con wasn't on when my wife used it at 0500 - had to request it.
Good location on lower end of magnificent mile. Entry a bit weird through nordstom mall - if you have luggage , certainly enter via Nth Rush Street . BTW if you need real coffee try Lavazza cafe on E Ohio, and Bice restaurant on E Ontario for a good Italian meal.
