We went to Chicago for my best friend's daughter's wedding. They reserved a block of 15 rooms. Now, my understanding is a block is a group of rooms on the same floor or at least within a few floors of each other. Not in this case. NO ONE was on the same floor! Not the bride & her bridesmaids, not the groom & his groomsmen, not the family, nor friends! Before our arrival, the mother of the bride had requested coffee pots be in 3 of the rooms...ours, the grandparents, an uncle. This was confirmed in a email, there would be coffee pots upon check-in. NOT! The morning after our first night there, we called again to request a coffee pot. An hour later a gentleman arrived with a fresh pot of coffee stating he was sorry for the inconveniece and would get us a room coffeemaker ASAP. It finally arrived about dinner time. The bride had made "welcome gifts" for her wedding party that were to be placed in their rooms upon check-in. The hotel stated they would be happy to deliver, but there would be a $4 charge per item. No problem. However, while in the lobby, the bride noticed a man checking out that had, not one, but two of her welcome gifts! He was NOT a member of the wedding party! But she was sure charged for delivery! During booking, the mother of the bride had booked 2 Acura's for transportation purposes to the wedding. This too was confirmed by the hotel in an email. The day of the wedding, we called to confirm our Acura reservation and was told "we don't have you down and we can't help you at this time." We then asked if they could call and get us 4 van taxi's for 5:00 as the wedding was to start at 5:30. They stated they would call right away. We went downstairs...no van taxis. Upon questioning the front desk we were told, "uh, well, we called. Sorry...." OH MY GOD!!!! The hotel is quite beautiful but the service STINKS!!! They don't even try to fix what is "broken". They act as though they could care less if you are happy or not.

Vibe of hotel is great. Love the chairs outside looking over the lake. Bars, upstairs and downstairs are both very W -- which is cool and trendy. Rooms are clean and updated.

Highly recommend the hotel. My fave in the city (at this point).

W Lakeshore is a great place to stay in Chicago especially during summer across from the beach! As a Gold SPG member, I always got a suite and late check out. Though the rooms could use some remodeling the staff and views are fantastic. From the GM to the room service, the staff is great. Bliss is great.

The hotel has a cool lobby and bar upstairs. The rooms are really nice and the location is great. You are in walking distance of many restaurants, shopping, etc.

Stayed here for the weekend to celebrate anniversary without traveling far. We always stay at Starwood properties and we got a great winter rate here so we thought why not. The lobby is well designed, large and comfortable. Unfortunately, the rest of the hotel isn't. The hallways are dark and confining and the rooms leave much to be desired. While I realize this used to be a budget hotel that the remodeled, it felt like it. The ceilings still had that popcorn stuff on it and the carpet felt worn and dirty. The bathrooms are small but nice and of course you have the great Bliss amenities. If you have a room on the lakeside of the tower you do have a nice view that many hotels in Chicago cannot offer. The one really great plus was the front desk. They found out it was our anniversary and when we returned from dinner they had a bottle of champagne and strawberries in our room. Nice champagne too, $125 on the room service menu. That was impressive. If you are going to Chicago and want to stay in a Starwood hotel or W the Westin River North and W Chicago City Center are better choices.
