I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights this past weekend. It is really a nice hotel - some old world charm (building is from the 1920's), but recently refurbished. Doesn't feel like a chain at all. Decor and fixtures are all modern and in excellent condition. We had a suite (my sister, 14 year old nephew and myself), and it came with microwave, refrigerator, sink in the living room. Bathroom, shower, beds - all great.

Front desk personnel couldn't be nicer and more helpful - they really seemed to take pride in their customer service. They helped with bus routes, restaurants, etc.

Continental breakfast very nice - hard boiled eggs, waffles, yogurt, juice, bakery. My only complaint (and this is getting picky) is that there wasn't enough seating in the breakfast area - too many sofas and coffee tables that should be replaced with tables.

Last but not least - excellent location. Walking distance either way up Michigan Ave to Water Tower, John Hancock or other direction to Millenium Park and Art Museum. Convenient to buses on both State Street or Michigan Ave. Next door to ESPN Zone (great for kids).

Chicago Tip: Get a visitor bus pass. They have them in train station and I believe John Hancock center too. $5 for one day, $9 for 2. Chicago buses are very convenient and easy to use.

I booked this hotel for a vacation in Chicago, mostly to shop and eat on the Magnificent Mile. It was great; and it was only two blocks from Magnificent Mile. Somehow we ended up with a suite without asking for it or paying anything extra (probably because we got in so late). Parking was cheap ($25 compared to $46 at other hotels on the Mile), maybe because there was no direct parking garage access to the hotel and you had to walk out of the garage to get to the hotel. The breakfast was great and had everything you could think of. The rooms were very clean and mostly everything looked newish. The only reason I didn't give this place a five was that the comforters have not been updated to the duvet style like most other hotels. Also, because I was a Choice Privileges member (maybe Gold) I got check-out extended until 2:00.

I stayed there for a couple of years for a June trade show because of the price.

The attitude of the front desk and the staff is poor.

This is a hotel which is supposed to cater to business travelers, yet they don't serve breakfast untill 7:00 AM on week days

The year before I mentioned this to the front desk and they said they would look into it.

But I was infomed hautingly that I was making an unreasonable request the next year. Normally the set up has some things out at 6:30 and I tried to grab something. You would have thought I was commiting a crime by their reaction.

I must say I was very impressed with the decor and the rooms. Definately not your normal comfort Inn & Suites that you see off to the road on the interstate. The bathrooms are very clean and has an elegant feeling to the design. The view of the North End of the chicago skyline is wonderful and everything is in walking distance as far as resturants and bars. I definately loved the bed that had 8 pillows that were not too hard or too soft. I would definately stay there again!
