I stayed in a female dorm. We were 27 girls in a room!!! and it smelled a bit strange. The worst is that there's just one bathroom far from the bedroom, where the doors don't close, and with a shower that you won't like to use.

I also must say that at least in my bedroom there were no bedbugs.

The good point is the neighbourhood, that's very nice, you have a kitchen if you want to cook your own meal, and that's full of young people you can meet.

I stayed in the girls' dorm that was opposite the pool-room. In the evenings it was very noisy, as some visitors were drinking and talking loudly. But I personally did not care as I was too tired to react to it. The dorm I stayed in was OK, clean and with AC. But there was only was annoying thing - it was sometimes impossible to switch on the light easily, it seemed not to work properly. Some girls tackled this problem quickly - they simply had their torches. The bathrooms were somewhat strange-frsrt, the toilet room' s door hardly ever closed, so you had to hold with your hand when being inside it. The bath itself was not too bad, the hot water tap had a really hot water, it was working allright. But I only did not like that some girls left their hair in the bathhole. The kitchen is fine, AHH offers free coffee and cereal, and some other food. There was enough kitchenware. The gasstove was always clean, the sinks always empty. I really liked the pool-room, as there were so many people socializing! I met some really nice and interesting people there. The staff was reasonably accomodating, but not more. On the overall, it's a good place to stay, as its location is fine, Hostel has a vibrant environment. I would really come back there one day. It also was my first hosteling experience.

We were 24 girls in a dorm with a creaking door. The dorm smelled the pee and the beds didn't look clean at all. Even though the location is good, I'd try another hostel if I'm back in Chicago.

I didn't know what are Bed Bugs until today when I went to the doctor. My arms and legs are full of irritating bites. I stayed at the Hostel during a weekend and the bites appeared a day later. I have no confirmation that the bugs are from the hostel or are maybe in my house. But my house was clean before I went to the hostel and according the other reviews there are indeed bugs in this hostel!!
I should have given the hostel 1 star but I gave it 2 because I have been there before and didn't get anything.
I won't go there again just for that reason. If you get the bites you'll be sorry for having gone there (actually there are not really other good reason to go there except budget reasons)
