Stayed four nights in the Ardmore House and wouuld definetly never recommend this to anyone! I was the only guest and saw the owner only during my arrival because I called him as I had difficulties to open the door. During the four days neither the room nor the bathroom has been cleaned and especially the bathroom was not very clean with hairs in the bathtub and a toenail !!! on the bathmat. The House is located very far away from the citycenter and it takes you 40min with the red line of the "L" to get there. The room was nicely furnished but not in a good order - old papers and receipts from former guest were laying around. The internet was out of order and despite the word from the owner not repaired during my stay. A fax send to me was never delivered. Overall overpriced and not charming at all!

Ardmore House is not your typical B&B. It is more like a self-catering rental. The house is located on a tree lined street in a quiet, safe neighborhood. Very accessible transit options - it's a short walk to the Thorndale L station and #36 Broadway bus. Sheridan Drive and the lakeshore is close enough to be an easy walk.
The place was clean and tidy. I liked the idea of a self-serve kitchen as it allowed breakfast at any time and a late night snack. If you clean up after yourself it helps but sometime during the day someone tidies up the kitchen for those less considerate.
The King room is large and with room to spread out. The shared baths (one upstair and one one downstairs) could present a problem if multiple guests require them at the same time but with our stay it worked out with no problem. (The towel rack is fixed.)
The best thing I liked was I treated it as home without having to conform to any schedule and was able to use the public areas of the house like home.
This is a gay B&B, with a mostly discrete Gay guests. However it does not shout it out other than GLBT guides on the porch table. If you want a private romantic experience Ardmore House is a great getaway for any sexual preference.
It is accesible from Midway by the Orange and Red lines and from O'Hare by the Blue Line transferring by bus to the Red Line. Never needed a car.

This was not a pleasurable experience! We stayed for 2 nights and only saw the owner for 5 seconds in passing on our first morning. After letting ourselves in, we received instructions on the rules of the house and not to expect breakfast to be prepared in the morning. We were told the kitchen was being "opened 24/7" and to help ourselves to anything we found on the counters or the refrigerator. The kitchen was filthy, from the grimy cabinets, to the non-functioning dishwasher, to the spill-filled refrigerator. The room had not been dusted in quite a while, the shared bathroom was in poor repair and had holes in the wall and the towel bar was hanging loose on one end. The hot tub did not work (obviously for quite some time). When it was time to check out on the last day, the owner was not present. It was obvious from his lack of interaction that he simply did not care about the quality of his guest's stay. I would not recommend this property to anyone!

We enjoyed our stay at Ardmore house in June. The young man working there was pleasant and helpful. I liked having access to the kitchen at my leisure. The inn is very clean and nicely decorated, with lovely public rooms on the first floor. We stayed in the Queen room which was a bit small, but adequate. Our daughter stayed in the Prince room. The biggest drawback is that the bathrooms have to be shared with other guests. There are 3 rooms and only two bathrooms. Also, there was no air conditioning in the prince room, and the a/c unit in the queen room was large and noisy. This is not a deluxe B&B, but it was relatively inexpensive and all in all, you get what you pay for.

I read the other review where the person didn't get the email about the lock box and that is unfortunate. I got the confirmation email and instructions and everything worked out beautifully for me. I found on street parking the entire time. I was delighted at the interior of the house which was beautifully decorated and very clean. I stayed in the Queen room, which was very comfortable. Great location to the train too. Good cable selection for those of us who like tv late night. I was never bothered by anyone and it was peaceful, quiet and a great rate. I will definitely return. Other places in Chicago are just too pricey for what you get.
