We stayed at the Amalfi Hotel on the weekend of June 13th. With lots of events in Chicago that weekend, many of the places we tried to book first were full. We found a decent rate at the Amalfi, which included parking, complimentary cocktails, and a light breakfast (total cost was $299 including tax).

We really liked the room. It was clean and beautifully decorated with some nice extra touches (such as good magazines), the bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the bathroom had Aveda products and a fantastic double shower-head. The in-room heating and cooling system was quiet and worked well. The lobby was upscale, and the check-in and check-out were streamlined and very fast. All staff were friendly and courteous.

We did take advantage of the complimentary cocktail hour in the lounge - we got there about 15 minutes prior to the end, and there was a long line for the bar, but it moved fairly quickly and we were able to get our drinks and relax in a quiet corner. They serve some light appetizers along with top-shelf liquor.

Breakfast was basic (coffee, juices, fruit, yogurt, bagels and muffins) but adequate. It is served on each floor, which is really convenient.

We also liked the location of the hotel - it is very central and close to lots of downtown destinations. Obviously, on a summer weekend, many of our fellow guests were there to enjoy the downtown area, so there was a little noise from party-goers and some street noise, but nothing significant.

Overall, the price was not a bargain, but we felt we definitely got what we paid for and we would make this one of our first choices for a return trip.

My husband and I went to Chicago this past weekend for our anniversary. Honestly the Almafi Hotel dropped into our laps, as we didn't have a clue where to stay. But upon looking at other great reviews and for the price, we went for it. And it was wonderful - we had a corner, king size suite. We were blown away as soon as we opened the door - fairly large suite with two rooms (sofa and large HD TV in one and fairly large bedroom with king bed, HD TV in the other), with windows in each room that extended all throughout, looking out onto the streets of Chicago. Very fun and trendy, CLEAN, double-headed shower, lots of fun amenities like CD's, books, magazines, and Aveda spa products in the bathroom with vanity mirror and stool. Beautiful and tasty breakfast in the morning on each floor and free drinks at night in the bar that were excellent. And the staff was incredibly friendly (always saying hello with a smile) and very eager to help in any way, from planning events to storing your luggage on check out day if your flight or train doesn't leave until later. The hotel is a 20 minute walk from Union Station or 5 minutes by bus (124). Can't beat this hotel, honestly!!

I stayed in the Amalfi over Memorial Day weekend with my fiance and we had a great stay and experience. Our room was nice and clean, with a comfortable pillow top king size bed. The bath products are Aveda and that will win me over any day. The rooms do have thin walls but I think that's pretty typical.

It's true that there is a complimentary cocktail hour from 5:30-7:00. You can get nearly any cocktail you want and there is a selection of wine and beer. The Amaflitini, their signature drink, wasn't my kind of drink (I'm a dirty martini kind of gal) but lots of folks really liked it.

Another perk is that you can rent movies for free and watch them in the comfort of your bed. We're not usually one to watch a movie on our vacation but we were completely exhausted on our last evening there. So we watched a movie after our dinner and walk.

The location is perfect. It's a few blocks away from Michigan Ave and all the shops. It's right in the middle of a heavy populated restaurant area and the restaurants are even open late. It's also close to several public transportation stops. All of this is in walking distance.

We booked the Amalfi at the last minute, almost by accident. I found it on Travel Ticker for $129, which included valet parking. A great deal, coupled with the stellar reviews on TripAdvisor, inspired us to give it a try. We were very pleased with this hotel.

Pros: Awesome location in the heart of the city. Comfortable room and bed. Free internet. Free reception nightly with heavy appetizers and top-shelf alcohol. Friendly, accommodating staff. Beautiful, simple decor.

Cons: The only con we had was no view from the room.

We loved the Amalfi. They don't nickel and dime you like many city hotels. Instead, they actually have complimentary services which make the guest feel valued. We would return here in a heartbeat.

One of my best hotel stays ever - especially after living in New York (in a tiny room) for a week before going to Chicago.

- A gorgeous design hotel to a very decent price!
- The room was beautiful and as a large as a small apartment - as well as the bath.
- The staff was so friendly and helpful
- The breakfast was great (and included) - I also loved the concept that they served it on every floor and that you then could bring it to your room.
- Luxury to a budget price - it doesn't get better than this!

I will be sure to return on my next trip to Chicago and sincerely recommend it to everyone!
