While staying in Chicago this week, I learned that my hotel (Homewood Suites) uses PF Chang's for room service. We were exhausted one evening and called them, despite having reservations about ordering from a chain restaurant. We were most happily surprised.
Their food is not cheap ($7-14 bucks per item), but the freshness and the flavors are tops. We had the salt and pepper calamari, thin strips of calamari on a bed of crispy rice noodles, served with a soy-ginger glaze and extra salt and pepper; Thinly sliced lamb on a bed of lettuce, served with a sauce that tasted like a blend of peanut butter, chocolate and raspberry--sublime; Chow fun (the fat noodles) with beef, ginger and onion; and the stir-fried eggplant in a "fiery" sauce.
Our only complaints were that the "fiery" sauce, while very tasty, wasn't "hot spicy" at all. In addition, the calamari would benefit from being cut into wider chunks so the salt and pepper would adhere better, making the nice crust for which that dish is known.
Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this place.
