Stopped in to check out this unusual restaurant, recommended on Check, Please, a Chicago TV show that invites three people each week to share their favorite restaurant. We thought it would be fun to visit, as it is a throwback to the past, a liberal restaurant (formerly vegetarian only, but now a mix) with Communist and Socialist messages, magazines, and posters on the wall, located in Rogers Park, a north suburb of Chicago.
My recommendation, DON'T GO!
The catfish sandwich, at $10, was overpriced, but the one small catfish filet was tasty and cooked properly, just not very filling. The stale bun was not even touched, and the cornbread stuffing (vegetable choice) was gummy and very heavy.
My wife had the Maple Free Range Chicken, which was tough and covered with a soy/maple sauce with pineapples, with mashed potatoes and a very heavy, dense cornbread (they must use some organic cornbread mix that increases the density to roughly the weight of lead!). This meal scared us off the desserts, and it's safe to say it will be our last visit.
