“Supernatural Chicago” is a real treat: high-quality theatre in an intimate space, rich material beautifully performed, and a perfect balance of deliciously-spooky-but-not-nightmare-scary in the demonstrations of the paranormal.
I live in Chicago, my family came in from out of town, and we all had such a great time at the show!
We loved the stories – some were familiar to us, others were new, and it was a pleasure to hear them told so well.
Neil Tobin develops a warm, humorous rapport with his audience – he’ll joke with you, but not at your expense; he’ll ask for your help, but never put you on the spot – and we are still laughing from his delightfully dry, intelligent sense of humor. We’re also still trying to figure out how the paranormal demos are possible – we witnessed things that have us all mystified!
Neil does a great job of keeping the audience participation on an even keel – the audience is allowed to drink during the performance, and when that led some people to overdo the “interactive” element of things, he redirected them with real grace and professionalism.
It helps to know what to expect from the show: it’s mystical and spooky, but not card-trick/hat-and-rabbit magic-y; it’s rich in its presentation without using (or needing) flashiness or a cast of thousands; it succeeds with audience participation, but not an audience takeover.
We had never seen anything quite like it, and are so glad we got there! I will bring guests to see it again!!
