My husband and I stayed in the Chicago MDA apartments for 3 days in May 2006. I would recommend these to anyone. We had looked at Trip Advisor and saw one very negative review and several positive ones. The negative review was from someone who arrived there before the building was finished- negative- rightly so. However, we elected to stay there looking at the more recent reviews. These apartments are in a made-over office building in Chicago. The MDA apartments are very nicely located- between Michigan and State Street on Lake, just below the river. You can board all of Chicago's trains within 4 blocks of the hotels. The apartments are partly residential and partly short-term stay. When you arrive you sign a lease; it's an apartment, not a hotel. Our studio looked brand new- in fact, I had to take the hair dryer out of the plastic bag and the box. It comes with a full kitchen- regular sized refrigerator, full stove, and dishwasher, washer and dryer, plus other nice things like a coffee maker, toaster, corkscrew, glasses, utensils, etc. Indeed, this is a furnished apartment. It also comes with more hotel-like things- nice towels, shampoo, soap, etc. There is a flat screen TV and free Internet service is included, but the phone doesn't allow long-distance service- no problem for us, we had our cell phones. The price was much cheaper than other downtown Chicago hotels, and because it's an apartment, the price you see is the price you pay (all of the taxes that are added onto hotels aren't added here). But, there is no maid service in the morning. We had plenty of towels for the 3 days- I'm not sure whether we could have gotten fresh ones and fresh bed linens if we'd asked. We paid $155/night for 3 nights. The only slightly negative thing was that it is very near several train lines and you do hear the trains somewhat. They stop late at night, but start up again in the morning. But, to us, the location more than made up for that minor inconvenience, and I've stayed in much louder hotel rooms. I'd recommend staying here if you want a good, clean downtown location for much less than the major hotels.
