After spending several hours online researching places to stay in Chicago, we chose to stay at The Old Chicago Inn. We called them directly and booked a room for June 23-25, 2008, for our upcoming trip to Chicago. Five days after making the reservation, the front desk called saying that we no longer have a reservation at The Old Chicago Inn because they overbooked the Inn for those three days! Apparently, they had mistakenly booked a large party and our single room at the same time, and they cancelled our reservation in favor of the larger party.
Needless to say, I was very displeased to know that we no longer have a place to stay in Chicago, and our trip is less than 2 weeks away. It is very difficult to find accommodations in Chicago this time of year for a reasonable price. The person from the front desk who called us offered to book us at another B&B in the neighborhood, but we decided to book another place ourselves as we did not want any further mishaps.
I feel that this mistake should have been corrected several days ago, when we first made our booking. It is incredibly unprofessional for a B&B to overbook and then cancel reservations for customers that have already provided them with a credit card number.
I requested that the owners call me back to discuss this, and I also sent an email directly to them indicating my disapointment with their customer service. It has been over 24 hours with no response.
