“Cancelled Our Booking as Well!”

I am going to sound like a repeat of the review I just read, but I can't believe that this happened to me as well! When looking for a hotel in Chicago, I scoured the internet for the perfect place and decided on the Old Chicago Inn for my husband's birthday because he is a HUGE Cubs fan....I bought tickets for a game and booked this hotel because it looked so cute and was so close to Wrigley Field. I even called the hotel directly in order to reserve the room I wanted.

Less then a week and a half before our trip (which was a birthday surprise for my husband), the hotel calls to tell me that they overbooked our room and that we no longer have a reservation....but wait....isn't that in fact the purpose of a reservation??? To HOLD a room? So, the lady at the front desk left me another message telling me that she had called around and she gave me the number of a nearby Holiday Inn to make a reservation there. First of all, I had already looked at this hotel....AND I had already called them....They had nothing available! She had in fact given me the number of a hotel with no availability. Then, she said that she would e-mail other hotels/bed and breakfasts in order to find something....It is now two days before our trip, and I have heard nothing back from this hotel. Thank goodness I found something else on my own the day they screwed me over.

I am incredibly disappointed in this establishment. I booked this hotel not only because of the proximity to Wrigley Field, but also because I thought that my husband and I would absolutely love our stay there. Wow, was I wrong....Old Chicago Inn....You have a lost a potential customer, and I will tell anyone that I know to steer clear of you. I thought that I was perhaps a fluke case, but right before I posted this, the first review about losing a reservation caught my eye...wow...apparently this happens often. It is rather disappointing that we cannot even depend on the integrity of a hotel or its staff to honor their guests' reservations.

“Overbooking Problems!”

After spending several hours online researching places to stay in Chicago, we chose to stay at The Old Chicago Inn. We called them directly and booked a room for June 23-25, 2008, for our upcoming trip to Chicago. Five days after making the reservation, the front desk called saying that we no longer have a reservation at The Old Chicago Inn because they overbooked the Inn for those three days! Apparently, they had mistakenly booked a large party and our single room at the same time, and they cancelled our reservation in favor of the larger party.

Needless to say, I was very displeased to know that we no longer have a place to stay in Chicago, and our trip is less than 2 weeks away. It is very difficult to find accommodations in Chicago this time of year for a reasonable price. The person from the front desk who called us offered to book us at another B&B in the neighborhood, but we decided to book another place ourselves as we did not want any further mishaps.

I feel that this mistake should have been corrected several days ago, when we first made our booking. It is incredibly unprofessional for a B&B to overbook and then cancel reservations for customers that have already provided them with a credit card number.

I requested that the owners call me back to discuss this, and I also sent an email directly to them indicating my disapointment with their customer service. It has been over 24 hours with no response.

Great little hotel with lovely, cozy rooms and an awesome location for walking to the ballgame, the night life, the lake and tons of cafes and restaurants.

I was little leary about staying here, since I usually stay in national chain hotels. All I was hoping for was a clean room and that's it. I got so much more. This place isn't for everyone that is for sure. You do give some things up (like a private bathroom). But you gain so much also. Virginia and her assistant (never dealt with Todd) make you feel at home. I saw them walking around and they made a point to say hi. They are just great people. Best deal in Chicago. I will be back.

My daughter and I just had a lovely stay at this B&B. Virginia greeted us promptly, carried my bag up to my room. She was a wealth of information on the area, how to get around, things to see.Supplied us with maps and travel brochures, of the area.
In the mornings a modest breakfast was served buffet style.
The coffee was fresh & strong. There was no reason to leave for your day on an empty stomach.
We also received vouchers for Trader Todd's a bar & grill a few doors from the Inn. They served bar type food, a little more creative than some. The beer was cold, the cocktails were generous and the staff was very friendly.
The Inn was very clean and the bed was just great. We had to share a bathroom, but this never posed a problem. My daughter and I never waited to use one. It was pretty quiet for being in such a bustling area. We had a great stay and would recommend it to friends & family.
Virginia & Todd are very warm & friendly people, and seem well suited to their venture. Continued success,

Debra Pope & Staci Yocom
