Just got back last night and I can't wait to write this mini review.
An old house built in 1905 and converted into a "unique" little bed and breakfast . A very clean and well kept place to stay. Old Chicago Inn have a few rooms and can accomodate almost everyone from a single traveller to a family of 6. Half of the units have shared baths and half have private bathrooms. As a travel agent, I check these infos as if I'm doing a hotel inspection. Unbeatable rates.
Jon Findley, the innkeeper, made me feel welcome and guided me and suggested to me some great places to see and things to do in Chicago - he gave me infos that you will never find in any travel guide magazine. To me, Jon is Chicago..a very cool guy! I also like antique "telephone booth" in the general area where you can actually use to make local calls and the warm bathrobe in my room.
Besides the great rate, location is also why I chose to stay here. There's no need for a car rental. About 45 minutes from the airport using CTA - their public transportation. 15 - 20 minute train ride to downtown. The train station is literary 20 steps from the Inn. Guests will be given a meal voucher to Trader Todd's - the bar 2 doors down (same owners as the Old Chicago Inn). You can use it for any meal, brunch or dinner and they let me use the gym next door but didn't have time or maybe just lazy.
AND, I left my watch there and Melissa called and offered to send it by mail. WOW. Thanks and yes, I would recommend this to my friends and my clients.
Jon told me that they belong with the Chicago Bed and Breakfast Association so they have to meet a certain standard and thats a good thing to rely on when chosing a bed and breakfast.
