Four groups of our extended family made a spring break trip to Chicago to visit my daughter who lives beside Wrigley Field. We wanted somewhere near her apartment instead of one of the big downtown hotels. I was impressed with the service beginning with my initial phone call. I wanted to book 4 rooms for different numbers of people arriving on various days for our get-together. I spoke to Melissa who was most accommodating. We ended up having all the rooms on the third floor of the Inn plus one on the floor below. We also had a lounge area, and a kitchen was available. And the rooms were gorgeous! Most were quite small, but the beds were beautifully made and extremely comfortable. The room size wasn't a problem because of the lounge area. And one of our rooms was HUGE -- king size bed, chair, sofa bed, working fireplace, plenty of floor space. Two of the rooms had private baths just outside the bedrooms, one had an en suite bathroom, and one shared a bathroom with one other room. The water was hot and the water pressure was good.
The stay included free access to a gym next door, wi-fi access, and a $10 daily coupon for food at the bar/restaurant next door. A small continental breakfast with very good coffee was provided each morning. It was nice to sit in the downstairs parlor in front of the fire and have a cuppa while talking to the innkeepers.
The Inn is only a block from the Red Line, so getting around is easy. We did public transportation everywhere we wanted to go.
The only complaint I heard from our group was that street noise was a problem in the front bedroom. But 2 of the people in that room did not notice the noise. And the one who did remembered that she had earplugs and was fine after that!
As a celebration that spring had arrived and that the Inn was fully booked up that weekend, the owners had a cocktail party for the guests on Saturday night! Now that was definitely above and beyond.

Just got back last night and I can't wait to write this mini review.

An old house built in 1905 and converted into a "unique" little bed and breakfast . A very clean and well kept place to stay. Old Chicago Inn have a few rooms and can accomodate almost everyone from a single traveller to a family of 6. Half of the units have shared baths and half have private bathrooms. As a travel agent, I check these infos as if I'm doing a hotel inspection. Unbeatable rates.

Jon Findley, the innkeeper, made me feel welcome and guided me and suggested to me some great places to see and things to do in Chicago - he gave me infos that you will never find in any travel guide magazine. To me, Jon is Chicago..a very cool guy! I also like antique "telephone booth" in the general area where you can actually use to make local calls and the warm bathrobe in my room.

Besides the great rate, location is also why I chose to stay here. There's no need for a car rental. About 45 minutes from the airport using CTA - their public transportation. 15 - 20 minute train ride to downtown. The train station is literary 20 steps from the Inn. Guests will be given a meal voucher to Trader Todd's - the bar 2 doors down (same owners as the Old Chicago Inn). You can use it for any meal, brunch or dinner and they let me use the gym next door but didn't have time or maybe just lazy.

AND, I left my watch there and Melissa called and offered to send it by mail. WOW. Thanks and yes, I would recommend this to my friends and my clients.

Jon told me that they belong with the Chicago Bed and Breakfast Association so they have to meet a certain standard and thats a good thing to rely on when chosing a bed and breakfast.

FABULOUS location one block from the "L", a few blocks from Wrigley field, and one block from a Zipcar location if you're a member of that. The house is neat and old, the rooms are adequate.

Keep in mind, this is a B&B. Our room (2C) was fairly microscopic, but had a comfy bed and a tv and basic amenities (towels, robes, soap/shampoo). The bathrooms were nice, though one toilet stayed clogged for at least 12 hours after we reported it. The halls are very squeaky, so you'll hear when your neighbors come and go.

That said, it had charm and a reasonable price in a great location. There are vouchers for meals at the bar next door, though Chicago has such great food we decided to forgo the pub food.

My wife and I booked this place back in March when I bought tickets to a Cubs game. We weren't sure how we would like the place, but it truly turned out to be an excellent spot to stay!
We stayed for 3 weeknights Aug 4-7 and stayed in the small 'cozy room' which is certainly small, but serves its purpose as a place to crash after a day/night out in the city. We were upgraded to the biggest room on the 2nd floor the last night because of last minute bookings. The bigger room was nice, but more street noise in that one than in the smaller room. My advice here would be stay in one of the smaller rooms toward the back of the inn just because it is quieter there.
Virginia was the innkeeper and she was very friendly and accommodating. She made sure to give us a tour of the Inn and pointed out common areas where we could sit and read without being stuck in our room.
The second floor had two bathrooms for 4 rooms to share, but that was never a problem. The only issue we had was the thermostat is accessible to anyone and other guests turned the air conditioning temperature up to near 80 degrees, making our room nearly unbearably toasty.
The breakfast was small and really only consisted of fruit, muffins, cereal and juice, but was enough to get the day started.
The location is the bed and breakfast's best feature and it really is only about 4 blocks from Wrigley Field, there is a Walgreens a half block away for anything you may have forgotten at home, and there is a bar/grille (Trader Todd's) next door that you get 1 free meal each day if you want just ask the innkeeper for the vouchers. Also the Belmont stop on the El is about a block away to get on either the Red or Brown line.

  • Liked — The location!
  • Disliked — Community thermostat a bad idea!
