We stayed at the Flemish House during the third week of September, 2008.

Overall, we were very satisfied, receiving what we were told and sold. This is not a typical bb, but more in line with a self contained private apartment in a vintage and well kept Victorian style home. We liked the continental type breakfast offering which is in your own suite, replenished daily. Convenient and a real time saver. Well worth the $10.00 per day extra charge.

Tom, our host, promptly welcomed us upon our arrival and left us with the impression that he was only a phone call away, should we need any help. When we did seek advice, he was very helpful and friendly.

We liked the location – it turned out to be a real winner area. The Flemish House is located at the one end of Michigan Avenue and only a few blocks from where Oprah apparently lives, and also minutes from a super clean and safe beach area. Plenty of history in this stylish, history laden area, known as the Gold Coast. You’re only minutes from Michigan Ave. (the Magnificent Mile) and a block away from well known and very good restaurants.

Safety is a concern for all travelers to a new area. We felt safe at all times in and around the Flemish House and we did plenty of walking in the area. A couple of times we walked home after midnight and again, no problem whatsoever. Cabs are also plentiful and easily available in the area.

One day we’ll be back to the Chicago area and the Flemish House will be on our list. Hopefully, when this happens, they’ll have a room for us.

We stayed 6 nights in September 2008, room number 2R, and reiterate all the good things said in previous reviews about Flemish House. Additionally Mike allowed us the use of their laptop which was very helpful. We have stayed in B & B's in Europe and Flemish House compares favourably with the very best in our experiences. Just a great stay, thanks Mike and Tom. We enjoyed Chicago immensely, being from Sydney we are used of our harbour and beaches however Chicago has a lot to offer by way of the lake and river. The architecture generally is something to see and the food of excellent quality. No problem in recommending Flemish House and Chicago with the greatest of confidence.

We have just returned from a trip to Chicago and somehow found the Flemish House of Chicago just by accident when browsing on the internet.
What a privelege to be able to share the house of Tom and Mike who clearly have an eye for comfort and design(we did not know that Mike was an architect).
Such warm people and so pleased to have guests in their own home. It is so close to everything and in such a beautiful part of Chicago. After walking around all day staring up at buildings and maps, what a treat to get back to home and just walk out up the road to some great restaurants.
I nearly did not give this a review as I wanted this to be a well kept secret but there are already many and all say similar things so what the hell, anyone wanting to go to this great city should try and get to stay here.
If you get tired of eating out then you have the option to make a meal in the comfort of your own room, even invite your friends for an aperitif.
Go for it its great and such wonderful hosts too.

We took a 3 week trip to the States: 2 cities (New York and Chicago) and then a road trip along part of Route 66, up the Mississippi and back to Chicago. We booked every bit of our accommodation solely based on Tripadvisor reviews and everything was just perfect.
Flemish House was everything we had hoped and more. The suites are even lovelier when you see them than on the internet pictures. Absolutely spotlessly clean and such a lovely location in a quiet street yet only a walk from the city centre. We had two studios, the twin one and one of the doubles and both had a lovely long entrance landing, a huge walk in closet, lovely immaculate bathroom, beautiful high ceilings and the most comfy beds and top quality bedding. Mike and Tom were so welcoming and friendly, but did not intrude on us at all. It felt like having our own flat in Chicago! But anything we asked for was there in an instant, including the very generous loan of a laptop to search out city info and check emails. The little kitchenette was brilliant and again, spotless. We didn’t use it except for keeping water in the fridge and the odd cuppa – but Mike and Tom had provided free fresh ground coffee and tea bags! Another good idea is the washing machine and dryer in the basement for guest’s use – this was brilliant for us as we’d been travelling over a week when we got to Chicago and were off again for another week’s road trip after. We would not stay anywhere else in Chicago if we ever return – and I hope we do! One more tip – book a Chicago Greeter from the tourist office. Ours was brilliant – so friendly and informative and we spent our first morning with him on a walking tour of the Loop architecture. He took us inside lobbies and buildings we wouldn’t have realised we could go in or what they were if we’d been by ourselves. A great city to visit and Flemish House the perfect place to stay.

We had a wonderful five night stay at the Flemish House at the beginning of September.

The House: We had apartment 3F. Beautifully appointed with livingroom, full kitchen and lovely bedroom. All amenities, iron, hairdryer, tv, comfy bed. The rooms were spotless. Mike and Tom were perfect hosts. If you needed them they were right there. The kitchen was restocked everyday with breakfast goodies.

Location: Could not be better located! One block from Lake Michigan , one block from the magnificent mile, half a block from a row of restaurants and shopping. Cedar Street is a wonderful residential block with a mix of old and new buildings.

Transportation: Bus #151 right on corner to downtown and Lincoln Park. Subway (EL) 2 1/2 blocks to everywhere.

This was our first time in Chicago and we loved it. So much to do and see. Architectural boat tour, Art Institute, Museum of Contemporary Art, Mellinneum Park, Frank Lloyd House and Oak Park neighborhood, Lincoln Conservancy and Zoo, wandering around the beautiful steets of the Gold Coast, seeing Wrigley Field. Ate at and reccommmend Bistro Zinc, Bistro Margot, The Big Bowl, Corner Bakery. Great time!
