My two young adult daughters and I were looking for a B&B in Chicago where we could relax and could walk to restaurants and stores. After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor, we decided on the Flemish House. I was personally contacted by phone by one of the owners after sending an inquiry on availability.
When it was determined that we would arrive when the owners were not there, easy arrangements were made so that we could enter without problem. What we found was a place that so warm and welcoming, that one could easily decide to spend their entire stay inside! The decor was lovely and unit was meticulously clean and polished. A very comfortable "cot" was set up since we had three people and my daughter who is a very picky and light sleeper slept very well. The main bed was a dream since it had fluffy down comforters to keep us warm.
This B&B did not have a gathering place where breakfast was served. Instead, it had a stocked kitchen within each unit with all the breakfast items we could eat--cereals, oatmeal, muffins, yogurt, fruit, juice and milk. This suited us perfectly so we could sleep in and eat breakfast in our pajamas without having to be someplace at a specific time and dress appropriately. The unit also had a full kitchen well outfitted so that meals could be prepared if one should choose.
We chose to venture about a block to where there is a cluster of good restaurants. Since it was prime time Saturday night, there was a long wait for the restaurants recommended by the owners. We found one that suited our needs and offered great people-watching opportunities! Even though it was very cold outside, it was fun to walk around to see the sites. There was no shortage of taxis, even just outside the Flemish House. It seemed like a taxi flew by about every minute. We did drive into town and had to park less than a block away on Cedar Street at a 24-hour attended lot. For overnight stays, it was $25.00, which we felt was pretty reasonable given the area and the close proximity to the Flemish House.
I would highly recommend this establishment especially for couples wanting a wonderful getaway or a romantic weekend. I will definitely bring my husband the next time, but will wait until spring/summer when there is better weather and more outside activities since the location is so close to Lake Michigan.
