It was one of the nicest times traveling this year. I really appreciated the wireless internet access and the complimentary breakfest served every morning. I've read some reveiw don't know what everyone is talking about when the train is going by. It's more like a truck driving by off in the distance.

Also, the in kepper was just great. He told us about all the hot spots in Chicago.

Sorry, no we were not content. We booked Cape Cod Room. You
offer a qiet accommodation. The street is quiet, but you forget to say, that Blue Line elevated trains are just behind your house, running nearly all the night, starting again very early in the morning
, creating a lot of noise.
You promise a large healthy breakfast , you offer a continental one
( expanded = bred and fruits) .
There is neither a phone in the house nor a computer to use.
At least, disappointing, for people who want to sleep in the night

Management response from Mikky James Wright, Co-Owner
(Management representative)
Dec 1, 2008
The staff at the Wicker Park Inn takes it's reviews of our conduct, cleanliness, breakfast and ability to service our guests very seriously. When we read this most recent review entitled "Noise," we were very concerned and attempted to contact our former guests immediately. After no response via phone or email was successful, we felt it necessary to submit a Management Response to what we feel is a very unrealistic review of the Wicker Park Inn:

1. We make it very clear to our guests that the Blue Line runs behind our establishment. We even take it a step further by pointing out which 2 guest rooms are closest to the train so light sleepers won't be disturbed and those room facing the street. In a city like Chicago, the subway/elevated train runs everywhere. You can't go anywhere without hearing the train. if the guest was that concerned, we wish they would've addressed this when we spoke each morning at breakfast.

2. In response to the guest regards to our breakfast, we offer a very substantial breakfast including:
a. 14 different gourmet tea choices,
b. A Lavazza espresso machine with regular and decaf espresso,
c. Freshly brewed Intelligentsia drip coffee, orange juice, non-fat milk,
d. 6 different fruits cut up fresh every morning
e. 2 cereals & an assortment of oatmeal
f Assorted Yogurt & 6-8 different pastries delivered each morning from two different bakeries including croissants, muffins, scones, breakfast breads, apple struessel tarts & cinnamon rolls.

3. Lastly, we've never had a computer onsite for guest's use but make it very clear that there's free wifi available. Also, we've never had a telephone available onsite. We're concerned that we are being represented & judged unfairly by these review on items we've never had nor have ever advertised to have.

4. In conclusion, we treat all reviews fairly. When we are critiqued, we contact the reviewer thanking them for all their feedback. But in this case, we find the review to be a little extreme offering no feedback that could help any future guests.

Nov 7, 2008 | Trip type: Friends getaway

I just returned from a 2 night stay at the Wicker Park Inn. My friend and I stayed in the Tuscan Room. We had a lovely stay. The inn is in a great neighborhood full of shops and restaurants. We found it easy to get to all the sites in Chicago via cta rail or bus. It was nice to stay in area outside the tourist zone. My friend and I both felt like we were actually living in Chicago.

I stayed here 10/20-22/08 and was very disappointed with the accomodations. First and I know for the price not to expect The Ritz, this place needs lots of touch up, from replacing the worn, dirty entry carpet, to paint, furnishings etc. Secondly, DO NOT and I repeat, DO NOT book the Chicago Room if you have any intention of sleeping more than five hours a night. I was mistakenly moved to this room (my bad for not noticing the change when I checked in) and it is literally no more than 30 feet from the very active Blue Line CTA train tracks. This may be the cheap hotel room used in the "Blues Brothers" movie when Jake and Elwood were almost sleeping on the tracks themselves.
Making matters worse, the owners did not return my call when I noticed the room switch and since then can't remember why they moved me from my originally booked room, which is on the front of the house and would have been much quieter.
On the positive side, the neighborhood is pretty cool, the price is right and if you're brave and a stunt man, you can literally hop the train as it speeds by.

I felt very lucky to get the Bucktown Apartment (across the street from the main building) during the weekend of the Chicago Marathon. Five of us stayed there, and it was very economical. The apartment was clean and spacious, and the kitchen was well-stocked. The neighborhood is great, and there is plenty of street parking. The only slight glitch was some confusion when one of my friends unexpectedly tried to get her bags into the apartment before it was ready. Regardless, I definitely would stay at the Wicker Park Inn again.
