“Best Hotel Experience I have ever Had”

Marriott Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile

Jan 6, 2008

I did not hear another guest the entire time I was here (from within the room). The place is private, secluded (compared to the Mile area) and is the best hotel I think I've stayed in. The food was great, business services great, and the location is truly great if you have business in the downtown area. I would certainly return to this hotel anytime as the staff were cordial, polite, and seemed to care about the guests. The room had a large TV, nice bathroom, hairdryer, was clean, and had a great mattress (compared to other places we've stayed in). The place called taxis in a timely manner and made great dining suggestions (they were brutally frank in their opinions, which was nice). I really had a relaxing stay at this place. I was in the middle of business areas, but heard little noise while actually staying within the room. And the hotel was sold-out, I was told. Amazing hotel, great experience for a business traveller in Chicago. This is not really a romantic hotel for a vacation trip, but is an oasis for any business traveller or a person in town for a cheap, quick getaway. Breakfast was included with the rate and was very good. I really enjoyed this place.

You cannot beat the location of this property if you are looking for shopping and restaurants within walking distance. The free trolley can shuttle you around town as well. The rooms were small but clean and updated. During our visit the hotel was very busy so the elevators were a bit slow. Do not take a room by the elevator- they are loud! Pool and fitness center were good. This is an older hotel but book it if you get a good rate.

“Disappointing”

Stayed for a conference for three days.
Room - small, everything worked as it was supposed to, bed was fair and the bathroom was certainly clean. No wireless internet.
Lobby - rather underwhelming for a major hotel in downtown Chicago. Lobby bar - absolutely horrific service. Waited for service for over half an hour, and the waitress could not get the order right after a few tries. Manager on duty was marginally effective.
Check in - no way to leave the car at the entrance or around it for check in, either valet park for an arm and a leg or use a parking garage next door.
Location - certainly central being right in the middle of Michigan ave outside the loop

Overall - adequate but rather disappointing considering that this is one of the major downtown hotels.

“Good Business Hotel in a Great Location”

Stayed 2 nights on business. Loved the very comfortable king-size bed and crisp sheets. The room was well set up and kept clean. Bathroom was very decent and I had sufficient space. My room was on the 17th floor and on the quiet part of hotel, so I actually slept really well, which is unusual on the first night for me. The restaurant served very good food. (Ate breakfast and lunch only). Nice, large lobby with Starbucks on-site. Great location on the mag mile with short walk to great shopping. All staff were very friendly and responsive to requests.

On the negative side
thermostat in the room could not be set properly, was a little cool.
Rooms are not wireless.
Although I was told I had late check out, the maid checked me out anyways and my bags were still in the room.

“Very Disappointing Marriott”

I stayed at this hotel for a conference, and it was very disappointing. The room was very hot and dry, and adjusting the in-room thermostat didn't seem to make much difference. Many other conference attendees reported the same problem. The hotel does not have wireless internet, and the cable for the internet was so short that it barely reached the desk. Overall, the rooms just seemed outdated. This hotel is in dire need of an update. Based on information in the hotel guidebook, it does appear that they are updating the property, starting with the common areas.
