After booking through Priceline, I was worried I would get a sub-par room. I had heard from other reviews that the elevator is very slow and loud if you happen to have a room next to them. My pet peeve at any hotel is being put by an elevator, People are generally clueless when they are getting off or on the elevators and speak loudly. Very annoying and disruptive for those rooms near the elevators. So when I went to check in, I pointedly requested a room away from and elevator. If course, when I got to my floor I discovered the the elevator was directly across from my room. I didn't even open the door but headed back to the lobby to request again a room away from the elevator. Without any questions, I was given another room .My room ended up being a lovely corner room with a wonderful view of the Chicago River and the Loop. The bed and bedding was very nice and the decor was stylish too. The room was very comfortable. Great location.

The reviews of this hotel had been a little shaky so I was a little concerned. I even called the hotel to talk to a manager. I spoke with Ryan the manager on duty and he confirmed that the problems from before had been fixed. The elevators were fixed and were fast. The construction was over and things were back to normal. I reserved a superior king riverview room and it was beautiful. It appeared to be newly remodeled. Flat screen tv and second tv in the bathroom. Granite counters and Marble bath, seperate shower and bath. Seperate his and her sink area outside of main bathroom. Big closet, desk with leather chair. The view was great, right along the river across from the new trump tower and wrigley building.

It was right near Michigan ave where all the shopping and great restaurants are located. It is 2 doors down from the corner bakery which was great for breakfast.

The bellman was helpful and the valet was fast never waiting more then about 5 minutes for my car. Check in was fast and the staff was courteous.

Negatives-
No restaurant but there is room service which I didnt try. The workout room was a little old, but amazing view on the 37th floor. Parking was valet, only option and it was $39/night. My room was 1015, The hallway was totally remodeled as well but on the 37th floor it looked like it had not been remodeled. Does this mean that the standard rooms have not been remodeled yet? I am not sure.

Bottom line reserve the Superior King River View and you will not be disappointed. You will be in a brand new, huge room with a great room.

The location of Hotel 71 is great! Very convenient to the Mag mile shopping, etc. and a fabulous view of the river. The price was VERY good for the location.

However, when we stayed there, we did not get much sleep because the soundproofing wasn't very good. At 2:00am there were people in the hallways and next door making a lot of noise, so it was very difficult to sleep. Called the front desk to complain, and they said they would take care of it, but the noise kept up for another 30 minutes. I finally went to the door and told the people to be quiet, and finally got back to sleep. We were awakened at 6:30 when the room next door turned on their shower.

Also, I didn't like how the bathroom was only dimly lit, which makes it difficult to put on any makeup without looking like a clown. :-)

Maybe we were just unlucky because if there had not been loud drunken people in the hallway, maybe I wouldn't have noticed the lack of soundproofing.

The staff was very nice and friendly, and the room was large. We had a nice view of the river, etc. from our room.

“Great Stay!”

My girlfriend and I loved our stay at Hotel 71 last weekend. Since we were only staying a night, they upgraded our room to a river view. I'm so happy we got that room as the view and room was excellent.

The room was really spacious and the amenities were great. No complaints with the service.

Parking there is expensive and you cannot get your car on demand. I needed immediate access to it so i parked right around the corner for half the price. There are many other parking options in the area if you're able to walk a few blocks.

“Hotel 71 a BIG Disappointment”

Hotel 71

My girlfriend and I visited Chicago this past summer. We decided on Hotel 71 which claims to be a "trendy boutique hotel" in the heart of everything. Let me tell you trendy is NOT the way to describe this place. I was blinded by the TACKY cheetah print and purple and red hues splashed all over the lobby upon arrival. The front desk staff were less than friendly. The elevators were horrible and took forever to arrive to our floor (33rd). I was positive we were going to get stuck in it every time we got on as it creaked and groaned the entire time. Granted, the building is very old. Originally, the hotel was a condominium building, so the rooms are a decent size but the place is....well old and smells it too. The windows were the old fashioned ones that you push out and then up....nothing between you and the pavement 33 floors below. Not a safe hotel for children at all. There was a HUGE whole in the wall behind the bathroom door. Bathroom fixtures were cruddy and the tub and floors had hair on them. The towels felt like sandpaper. Housekeeping is slow and did not clean the room well even though we complained. Room service was slow and the food was average at best. The valet, when they answered, took at least 45 minutes to bring our car from the adjacent garage each time. Overall, the palce needs a to pay closer attention to details and hire more staff as you always seem to be waiting around for help. The only positive about Hotel 71 is it's location...one block from the Mag Mile and our room had a nice view of the Chicago River. I would NOT stay here again!!
