Booked both hotel and airline via hotel website. Got great price for two people. (Rooms are not guaranteed: ie smoking, double beds, etc.) We were lucky and received a non-smoking with double beds. The location of the hotel is very convenient, walkable to the Loop and Mag Mile. The El - Brown and Purple Line is a block away and can be reached by going through Merchandise Mall. Some of the rooms had great views for the city, unfortunately, we did not, which was ok because we could venture outside to the see the real thing very quickly. Don't pay heavy prices for the breakfast in the hotel. Venture out into the mall and try the food shops in the court or Au Bon Pain outside, which has outside seating that will allow you a nice view of the Chicago architecture and river.

A good place to stay

The beds at this hotel are some of the worst that I can remember. I unfortunately was attending a two-day conference and had already prepaid for the rooms - a sofa would have been more comfortable. The beds also had three small pillows that were the size of a "throw pillow" - it was very awkward. Overall the hotel rooms, hallways, and lobby were very dated and in need of a make over.

There are some good points to this hotel. There is free WIFI, location is okay but will probably need a cab to get to most places, nice bar with sweeping views of the city and river - some rooms also have this view. Also, the staff was very friendly and concierge "Robert" was helpful with restaurant recommendations and can get you last minute tickets to shows or the Cubs.

If you can afford it, stay next time at a hotel that is closer to Miracle Mile, the Pier, or Millennium Park. By staying at this hotel you'll end up spending money on cab rides and have a bed made of rock awaiting you when you get back from your night out on the town.

Location: Ideal location in Chicago, easy to commute to most main attractions and shops.

Staff: Everyone we spoke to was very helpful. The lady who checked us in was quite miserable, but nevertheless they all seemed ok.

Hotel: The hotel itself was OK. The hotel is sat on the top of a tower block starting at the 15th floor. When you arrive at the foot of the tower it is not straight forward on how you actually get to the hotel, we managed to find out by asking a gentleman, who had a similar experience. The room itself was very spacious but at the same time very average. We had problems with reliable hot water in the bathroom, most of the time the water was warm but not hot. We had a fairly decent nights sleep, although in the early hours I am sure I could hear what sounded like a washing machine going, which was quite loud. Although being high up is a good thing as you get no traffic noise. Another thing worth mentioning is the tremendous view of the surrounding city, from your room this is a visually stunning experience.

Main features in the hotel are the beautiful swimming pool on the 16th floor along with the impressive fitness center. Also the lobby area and dining is visually impressive, the bar in particular offering great views looked very good. As with most Holiday Inn's the price to eat in their diner is a joke, you are looking at 30 dollars minimum or so per person for a standard meal which you can get down the road for half the price.

Overall: If you want an OK hotel in a good Chicago location then this may be a good move, however for the $180 a night rate I am sure if you looked around you could do better. Everything about the general hotel is good, however the room itself is the weakest point.
