We stayed in HI MP during the back end of May 2009, while spending half term with my other half. Chose Chicago on the experience of a one day business trip back in 2005 and thought it would be good for a long city break. I must say we were not disappointed, it is a great city with lots to do and see and the food and people make the break a real pleasure.
The hotel has a reasonable gym with good indoor pool. The bar is a great place to have a cocktail before you go out and has great views at night.
We chose the hotel after reading the reviews on TR and we were not disappointed. When we arrived we were UG to a corner room over looking the river and the Hancock Tower, great view particularly at night. The room was big, like a suite, with King Bed and sofa that could pull down for a bed if required. Additional to a desk we had a table and chairs to eat our breakfast off. There is a CVS round the corner to get all that you need for the simple breakfast, if you do not want a "full size" from the hotel. The room had coffee making facilities and a fridge, so that was a bonus also.
The hotel is located in a great place as you can walk along Wacker or stroll through the back streets to the mag mile. There are a number of good places to eat in the locality of the hotel. We ate at Lou Malnati's - 439 N. Wells, which was a great rec from TR and the Pizza was to die for, we also ate at Heaven on Seven, which again was a rec from TR, and the food was again excellent.
We caught the El from ORD to Clarke and walked to the hotel, this was about 10 mins at the most. The brown line does stop at MP and you could get this from Clarke if you did not want to walk. At $23 I can recommend the 7 day CTA ticket, we used it all the time to get around on the El and on the bus up to Lincoln Park.
I could go on and on, but hey you have to find something out for yourself!!!
Use the site, people are really helpful and give really good advice.
Enjoy Chicago, it is a great City and if you are not sure where to stay go to the Holiday Inn at MP, the staff will welcome you and you will have a good time and it is really quiet.
