My friend & I got a great rate at the Intercontinental Chicago off of Hotwire ($107) for our Thursday night stay. Hotwire doesn't guarantee bedding preferences, so I called the hotel directly a few days ahead of time to confirm my reservation & request a room with 2 beds. I was told that was no problem & they had my request in. Oops! When I checked in I was told that a King room had been reserved. I explained to the front desk women that I had put a request in for 2 beds a few days prior - she one again informed me that there was no note on my reservation with that request. :( She then went on to tell me there were no double rooms available in the whole hotel (really?) - would the King Room be ok? Um ... I guess it has to be, right? I wasn't being mean about it, but she didn't even apologize for the mixup. After I told her we'd take the King Room because we had no choice, she let me know that "they gave us an upgrade" and that she'd make arrangements for a roll-away to be brought up at no charge. That was nice of her I guess, I just wish she wouldn't been a bit more friendly about it.
The room itself (room 2703) was big enough for us, but I found it a bit odd that the bathroom didn't have a fan. It also seems to only have heat lamps in the bathroom - which caused the room to get awful hot. We had the air conditioning on the whole time we were there (set as low as it would go - 65 degrees), but it never got below 72. Not horrible, but it was quite humid out and that 72 felt warmer because of it.
All-in-all I think we got a great deal for what we paid for. The location was wonderful and the hotel is beautiful!
