We had read reviews on this hotel and wondered if it would be ok. It was wonderful. It was exactly what we wanted. We were not expecting a brand new Disney hotel; we were hoping for a grand old European style hotel in a quiet neighborhood, and that's exactly what we got. We had access to the business center on the second floor to check email and print boarding passes, etc., so I didn't have to bring my laptop, which was nice. Our room was clean and comfortable, and I think very good value. We did need to rent a car for two days for a conference out of the city, and yes, parking is expensive, but parking in Chicago ANYWHERE is seriously expensive. We parked in a garage down the street for $29/a night. Mostly we just walked the two blocks to Michigan Ave and took the 151 bus that goes from there down to Millennium Park (and anywhere in-between). There's also a red line stop at Clarke/Divison, about 4 blocks away, which you take to Jackson and connect to any other line. There's a nice bistro two blocks away called the Third Coast which was great for breakfast or lunch. Rush St has lots of restaurants with sidewalk dining. I was very happy with the hotel and the area.
