“Great hotel”

Ambassador East Hotel

Aug 26, 2008 New

Booked a room online and got a great rate under $200 which is very cheap for a summer hotel room in Chicago in this nice location, 3 blocks I think from the water.
Even though our rate was so cheap, the service was wonderful, the front desk were polite& cheerful, the doormen and valet were great and helpful, and they even put a fridge in our room when we requested on, free of charge! The fitness room was clean, large and provided fruit and clean towels, and it had the greatest view of the city as it was on the top floor of the hotel. Location of hotel is safe, and such a beautiful area. Check the rates directly online of the hotel's website, as it was the least expensive. We will stay here again for sure.

the only reason I'm giving this hotel 2 stars is that the doormen were extremely nice and helpful. Otherwise, the services was terrible. We booked thru Priceline and got a room at $200. We then called to ask for 2 double beds. They only had a king bed and told us that the upgrade would be $20 extra and we could call closer to the date to see if any opened up. Meanwhile they assured us that we would have a roll a way waiting for us in the room.
-Day before arrives and called to see again, if any double bed rooms opened up. The lady said they had "changed their policy regarding Price Line Customers" and it would be an extra $100. and they were going to try to sell the room at $300. When we asked about the cot, she again quoted the "change in policy" and could not guarantee. Finally, when we arrived and requested the cot, it took 3 phone calls and most of the day for the cot to arrive.

As for the room, it was fine, nothing special, ice machines were only on 2 floors. Elevator was tiny, and the bathrooms were small.
They definitely should not advertise on Priceline etc, if they have such obvious dislike for those customers.

“AMbassador East needs work”

Ambassador East Hotel

Aug 15, 2008

A large group from my company stayed at the Ambassador East in the beginning of May. The hotel has good bones but is in serious need of renovations. I'll just list a few problems and please keep in mind I am NOT a picky traveller. Wallpaper in the room was literally falling off the wall at point. The room shapes and sizes were abnormal and generally very small. The bathroom was very old and not very clean. The rooms need redoing, there is no way around it. It looks as though not a cent has been spent on updating the hotel in 30 years.

The staff at the hotel was pretty great. The front desk personell were super friendly and helpful. The valet staff could have been nicer but weren't terrible.

The hotel is located in a beautiful neighborhood just a block from "rush and DIvision" , a great little strip of bars. Rish Street also has a ton of great restaurants, this is where you want to be if you like going out to eat.

Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Our room was near the elevator, I figured it would be noisy, but I don't think I heard it much at all. The train was within walking distance. I 'd definitely stay again.
