Strangely enough, one of the main things I liked about the Majestic Hotel in Chicago was where it was: a few miles north of the city centre. It meant taking a taxi after a night out and the sight of those high-rise buildings on one side was breathtaking, particularly after dark with all those windows lit up, for mile after mile after mile. What a beautiful and memorable sight! My travelling companion and work colleague, Kate (28), is a Polish photographer and I am a Scottish journalist (74). We both live in Dublin, Ireland.
We decided to go to Chicago at the last minute, Boston being our original choice, and the travel agent recommended the Majestic which was fine. The rooms are comfortable, well appointed and the free internet connection was a bonus as we both travel with our laptops. Breakfast was ok and the staff very helpful. We probably wouldn't have found Charlie Trotter's restaurant without their help. It is an amazing experience we had a 7-course dinner par excellence: about 400 dollars without wine for the two of us (we don't drink). I would class it as a Michelin 2-Star, maybe even a 3-Star, and we always choose the best restaurants in our travels, usually booking before leaving Dublin. We have visited 25 countries in the past two years, but Charle Trotter's was something special and it will always be etched in our memories.
If I'm ever in that wonderful city again I will stay again in the Majestic.
Ian and Kate.
