The Homewood is an excellent choice if you are going to be staying in downtown Chicago. All hotels are expensive in the city, but you get a lot for your money here. The suites are spacious, with a full kitchen, desk, couch, and television in the entry room, and then a separate bedroom with very large attached bathroom.
As others have mentioned, the lobby to the hotel is actually on the sixth floor, but the friendly valets will direct you up there. Since all the rooms are on upper floors, you should have some kind of view of the city from every room.
They serve a light "dinner" in the evening, and then a hot breakfast buffet in the morning with eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, etc. And unlike most free hotel breakfasts, they have servers bring coffee for you!
The location is quite good, with a train stop right across the street. The Homewood is right in one of the main shopping districts of Chicago as well, with Nordstrom directly across the street and many other stores and restaurants within very short walking distance.
It doesn't necessarily have the feel of a "five-star" hotel, but if our experience was representative, you should expect a very nice stay at a reasonable value.
