The room was super tiny. It had two beds and they were so close together it might as well have been one bed. The carpet was shabby, with rips it it and was very dirty looking. We had to wait over an hour past check-in time to get our room and then I believe we would have sat in the lobby even longer if we hadn't complained. It was like they just forgot we were waiting. The lobby and common areas are absolutely georgeous but the room we had was like it was another building. The bellman makes himself very scarce and might ignore you for a while when he is there. Would definitely not stay there again.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Allerton for a few nights during the Easter weekend. To sum up our stay:

Good - location, price (got a great package deal from Orbitz), and cleanliness.

Bad - room size is small but sufficient (mind you, we apparently got upgraded to a Queen bed but I am not convinced since my double bed at home is the same size as their queen size) and no coffee maker in our room so we went to the lobby and asked where we can get coffee and they directed us to the lobby bar where they charged us about $5 for a cup...now that's a bit ridiculous considering Starbucks was located across the street.

Would I return again? Yes - only if I can get the same deal. I'll just have to remember not to ask for coffee the next time around! = )

A friend and I stayed here for 3 nights. As it was our first time in Chicago, we wanted something with easy access to shopping, lots of things to do and places to eat. The Allerton did not disappoint.

We were able to walk to almost everything we wanted to do (parks, navy pier, shopping, restaurants, etc). We did have to take a bus to Bucktown, but the stop was right near the hotel.

The staff were friendly, though we didn't interact with them too much.

The room was in good condition and clean, but the layout was awkward, not allowing the person on the far side of the bed much room to walk to their side (less than a foot). As two girls, we didn't mind sharing one bed, but it was hard to get around without disturbing one an other.

We were very impressed with the fitness center. There are several cardio machines (bikes, elliptical, 4 treadmills) each with their own tv screen and weight machines/ free weights. It was clean and there were always plenty of towels. It is bright and airy and wasn't overly crowded when we were there.

The restaurant in the hotel was ok. It had good food, but not really a good place to have a 'night out.'

Overall, we would happily stay at the Allerton again; It was the best value for us.

The hotel is right in the centre of the Loop - the heart of Chicago. Within a walking distance to the Theater District and all of the museums. Great spot, excellent bathroom (all walls in marble). Tiny room, no fridge, but - hey! - again, excellent location :)))
Fitness centre on 25th floor overlooking the city, business centre with 24hour access to internet - opens with the guest room card, wifi with additional charge.

I have traveled in large cities like NYC, LA, SF and have stayed at a wide range of Hotels and have experienced a wide range from good to bad in service and the type of rooms. I have to say this place takes the cake on not looking nearly as nice as the pictures on their web site. They say they had a complete renovation in July of 08, ok not even a year ago. Then why was the furniture in our room busted stained with god knows what and the shower caulking was peeling and falling into the shower and floor. The sink and toilet had stains like rust on floor and around the faucets. The carpet in the room was thread bear with rips and holes in the middle of the room. The walls in the halls are scratched busted wood trims filthy looking doors etc. All of this combines to make a so called "nice" hotel have the appearence of a dump. For the prices they list you can find MUCH MUCH BETTER elsewhere. I have pics and will post them later. If you are use to staying at cheap roadside hotels then this is your place you might think its a palace. But trust me its not. Plus the staff was rude and not helpful from the doorman that ignored us on entry with our bags to the bar tender that took the cake or rude. I would say stay away from this Hotel. Oh we also had nail clippings in our bed sheets and the towels left a layer of linen like dust all over my body and in our hair. Its riduculous that I coudlnt take a shower and dry off with a towel without being covered in a layer of white lint. Plus on check in we asked for a room with a view they had plenty she said on entry, we thought cool how lucky, then upon entry to our room our view was of a fire escape.. nice job lady. Sure she had a good laugh about that with her co-worker (slackers) .
