“No resolutions to problems by hotel staff”

The Silversmith Hotel & Suites

We called well in advance to request a room overlooking Wabash on the 7th or higher floor and also requested an early check in. When we got there we were told no early check in and they gave us a room overlooking the top of the building next store which was overgoing some kind of noisy construction. When we call the desk and asked to be moved we were told that they had no other rooms available as there was a convention going on and all the rooms had been reserved. We were attending this convention and had reserved a room?????

Teleprompter in room said free bottled was available in the room, when I called because no water was in the room they told me the service was no longer available.

The room was clean, the bathroom large. The hotel itself was somewhat dated but not upleasant.

The location was fantastic, just around the corner from the theater district, which is probably the only thing that would make me go back. There is a deli and small bar on the lower lever.
The bar is small and with very uncomfortable seating and windows looking out onto the street. Certainly not the type of lounge bar to relax in after a long day. The deli was nice.

There was a nice gas fireplace in the check in level, however the room was so dark it was hard to sit and read the newspaper.

Just o.k. with a good location.

We used some "Thank You" points to stay at this hotel for a little getaway in the city. We live in the suburbs, so we were familiar with the area. What a great hotel! It's tucked away, so you may walk or drive right by and not even notice it. But that would be a mistake. The room was beautiful, clean and very large. The bathroom had a beautiful jet-tub and separate shower. The front desk staff was fabulous and had great recommendations. Don't be afraid of the L-tracks, we didn't hear them at all. This hotel is actually only a block away from the Palmer House Hilton, so it's close to shopping and the theater district. Overall, it was great!

“nice hotel in the Loop”

The Silversmith Hotel & Suites

We booked the Silversmith for a short two day trip to Chicago, based on decent reviews and a great price (less then $100/night in the Loop). When we checked in we were upgraded to a suite, though on the street/train side of the building. We did not mind the train much but if you are a light sleeper, you would want to request the other side of the hotel. It basically sounds like a rumble of thunder that comes every 90 seconds or so. The room itself was very nice and spacious as it was a suite. Everything was in good condition. We found the location to be pretty convenient for transportation and close to many of the attractions. The hotel also has a dessert reception on weeknights consisting of coffee and cheesecake, etc. If I were going back to Chicago, I would consider the Silversmith again, but I would ultimately end up with whoever had the best rates at the time.

Wow! What a hidden gem right in the Loop! If you blink you'll miss it, but what a find inside! There is no concern about being right on top of the El tracks, I couldn't hear a thing! The rooms were clean, the bathroom was huge! The location is fabulous, walking distance to many things right in the loop, theaters, shopping , art institute, millenium park etc. Convenient, undergound parking in Millenium park (1block away). I'd highly recommend this place.

“Nice hotel but billing NIGHTMARES!”

Stayed at Silversmith over Easter weekend, March 2007. Booked a Travelzoo special via their website. Upon checking in, was first told they could not locate my reservation, then they insisted on payment despite my reservation receipt showing I had paid in full at time of reservation. I was told their were only taking card for incidentals but after returning home noticed I had been billed again for entire stay. Front desk refused to provide at checkout stating the "third party site" I booked through would have to provide receipt. Calls to resolve duplicate billing were ignored and eventually filed dispute through cc to resolve.
Having said all that, I really liked the hotel. Concierge Peggy was great, rooms were very clean and nicely furnished. El station was directly in front of hotel. King suites are good sized and deli on site had decent food.
I tried to give the hotel another try and booked for Easter 2008 but then cancelled over a month in advance due to change in plans. Hotel again billed my credit card as a no show, despite my cancelling through their website and having a cancellation number.
So nice hotel, but DON'T STAY HERE unless you want to be billed and billed and billed. Read other reviews, it's not just me!
